At the ruins of a Mila Shrine in northern Valm, a ruffian leader named Xalbador exclaims that there's nothing like war for the well-made man, that the strong rise to the top while the highborns try to keep the blue blood inside them. An elder arrives on the scene and tells Xalbador to stop, that he's defiling sacred ground and that his wickedness will be punished; Xalbador asks by who, the same gods that abandoned him when he was starving as a boy. Xalbador tells the elder that, when he sees the gods, the can tell them Xalbador said they can rot in hell; Xalbador then proceeds to kill the elder, unknown that he was being witnessed by Brady, who vows to gut him for that action. A villager tells Brady there's nothing he can do, asking who would tend the injured if they lost Brady; the villager says they'll help as best as their able, Brady should help from the rear lines. Brady states that good people are dying and he can't help, wondering if only he could fight.
A bandit named Xalbador enters the ruins of a Mila Shrine and kills the elder that attempts to remove him. Brady threatens Xalbador, but a villager tells him to get back and tend to the injured, and Brady berates his own inability to fight. Outside the shrine, Maribelle informs Chrom that there is a battle ahead, and he orders the Shepherds to aid in the battle.

We cut to a forested area not far from the shrine, where Maribelle asks Chrom to hurry; Chrom asks Maribelle what's wrong, with Maribelle revealing that there are a lot of people fighting over the ridge. Chrom sees that those people need help, and calls the Shepherds into action. Preparations take place at this point.
If Chrom talks to Brady and is not his father, Brady first thinks Chrom is an enemy; eventually Chrom reveals his name, and Brady then reveals that he is Maribelle's son from the future and joins Chrom. If Chrom is Brady's father, both claim to be Ylissean royalty then realize that they are father and son; Brady expects to be considered a disappointment for his inability to fight, but Chrom is proud that he choses to heal people. If Maribelle talks to Brady, Brady immediately recognizes her as his mother, but Maribelle is put off by his mannerisms and leaves.

Once preparations are complete, one of the villagers pleads to Robin, revealing that the temple is being beset by marauding bandits. Maribelle tells the villager not to worry, the Shepherds are happy to help--if there's one thing the world needs less of, it's bandits. Brady states that he knows Maribelle's voice, then recognizes her as his mother. The battle begins at this point.
After the battle, an elder will thank Chrom for aiding them; depending on how many NPC villagers survived, the elder rewards Chrom or may ask him to leave. Brady then confronts Maribelle, calling her "ma"; Maribelle initially does not believe Brady is her son, and believes that he has stolen her ring until he points out she still has hers. Maribelle chastises Brady for his poor manners, but eventually the two begin to cry from their meeting.

Brady can be spoken to with either Chrom or Maribelle, and if spoken to with Chrom, can initiate one of two different conversations depending on whether or not he is Brady's father. If Maribelle speaks with Brady, Brady will laugh and declare that Maribelle must be the woman he's looking for; Maribelle asks Brady to pardon her, calling him a mannerless cur in the process, saying that she won't be laughed at by a base scoundrel of his ilk. Brady says that clinches it, he must be talking to Maribelle; Maribelle asks Brady how he knows her name, if he leers at her from behind the shades of whatever den of iniquity he frequents, and bids him good day. Brady states that Maribelle's always been like this, saying it was still good to see her again, and now that he's found her, she's stuck with him. Should Chrom speak with Brady and Chrom isn't Brady's father, Brady will mistake Chrom for an enemy and believes this is hit for him, apologizing to Maribelle and saying he won't be home for supper after all, then tells Chrom to do his worst and that he can't fight back anyway. Chrom tells Brady he's doing just fine; Brady states he's unarmed, that anyone with eyes can see that, with Chrom adding that anyone with eyes knows there's more to combat than swinging a blade around, he fights in his own way and asks if he's wrong. Brady asks that Chrom not patronize him, he'd love to fight more than anything but he can't seem to make it work; Chrom tells Brady he's sure something will come to him. Brady asks Chrom just who he is, with Chrom introducing himself to Brady's surprise; Chrom asks if Brady knows him, with Brady stating his mother wouldn't shut up about him. Chrom asks Brady if he knows his mother, with Brady revealing his mother's name is Maribelle; a surprise Chrom asks if he's another traveler from the future, with Brady asking Chrom that he's already heard and to take him with him, Chrom saying they could find a place for him somewhere. Should Chrom speak with Brady and Chrom is Brady's father, Brady mistakes Chrom for a chump and that he can kill him now, with Brady telling Chrom he's lucky he doesn't have his father's skill with a blade. Chrom asks Brady if his father is a swordsman, with Brady saying it's none of his business; Chrom then asks Brady if he always speaks like that to Ylissean royalty, with Brady stating that he is Ylissean royalty, surprising Chrom and subsequently puzzling Brady. Chrom asks Brady to humor him for a moment and asks Brady for his mother's name; after Brady reveals his mother's name as Maribelle, Chrom reveals Maribelle to be his wife, and in turn Brady his son, with Lucina failing to mention this detail. Brady says he and Lucina look alike if one squints real hard, then apologizes to Chrom for his insult earlier, then introduces himself and asking Chrom if he's disappointed in having a son that can't fight; Chrom tells Brady he's doing fine and that there's more to combat than swinging a blade around--and given Brady has chosen to heal rather than harm, he couldn't be prouder, with Brady giving one final thanks. Once the chosen conversation wraps up, the player can now control Brady at this point.

Once the battle ends, the elder will thank Chrom for keeping the sacred place safe and sparing lives within. Chrom states that he just did what was right, with the elder wishing everyone were that brave and distributing rewards.

Maribelle and Brady have gathered inside the ruins, with Brady getting Maribelle's attention by referring to her as his mother; Maribelle asks what Brady just called her, with Brady introducing himself. Maribelle states she only cures physical ailments, such as broken bones and the like, Brady is a deeply troubled individual whose diseased mind is beyond her healing; Brady asks Maribelle to stop taking for a minute and look at something--Maribelle's ring. Maribelle is about to start talking, with Brady attempting to introduce himself as who he is in comparison to Maribelle, but Maribelle makes the conclusion that Brady is a thief, a rapscallion, a common lowborn cutpurse, chewing out Brady for sneaking in and stealing one of her prized possessions. Brady asks Maribelle to stop interrupting him for a second and asks her to check her ring; Maribelle notices her ring is still there. Brady asks Maribelle if that clears things up; Maribelle says it clears up everything except for how she managed to give birth to a common thug, with Brady taking it as a harsh comment--he may not be the prettiest guy around, but he's no thief and that he is her son, and it's good to see her. Maribelle wonders how she ever permitted Brady to grow up referring to her as "ma"; Brady states she gave up trying after a decade or so. Maribelle asks if Brady can at least ride, read the classics, play violin, or play chess; Brady says he does all of the above since Maribelle beat all of that into him. Maribelle declares Brady salvageable after all, with Brady thanking her; Maribelle asks Brady to not look so forlorn, he's come a long way but his mother's here now, she'll take care of things from now on. Brady states he's missed Maribelle so much; Maribelle tells Brady to not even think about crying, it does not befit one of his station, and that he'll set her off as well. An emotional exchange takes place, ending with Chrom jumping in with his own in-disbelief comment.
