In Fire Emblem Awakening's StreetPass functionality, it is entirely possible to transmit characters possessing data from downloadable content, which simply does not exist in copies of the game which have not purchased the correct downloadable content. As such, it contains several content placeholders to prevent problems arising from the transmission of DLC data through StreetPass. This is comparable to, for example, the Enigma Berry in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, a placeholder for a number of items obtained from certain external sources.
