User:PikaSamus/sandbox/Fire Emblem Wiki:Canon policy

From Fire Emblem Wiki, your source on Fire Emblem information. By fans, for fans.

This is a proposed policy on Fire Emblem Wiki. This is not yet fully enforced; nonetheless, its details should not be ignored. Please check the talk page for ongoing discussions on this policy.

For the purposes of this page, "canon" is defined as xxxxxxxxxxx.

Games and other material

As stated in the coverage policy, licensed material such as manga, anime, novelizations, etc. are not to be considered canon, and anything exclusive to those, such as birthdays, events in their lives, personality, etc. are not to be included in the "main" parts of the article; they may be included in a separate section for the media in question.

Japanese vs. localization

For story details that are altered in localization, the Japanese version of the events are to take precedence. For example, Lyn's parents eloped at a different year prior to events of The Blazing Blade, and thus Lyn's age differs; the Japanese version of the events should be in the biography, though her age being adjusted should still be noted somewhere. I do not yet know where.

Exceptions

Names and terms used in localizations should still take priority.

Changed gameplay elements, such as altered growth rates, should prioritize the North American version, with the original Japanese data still being noted in some fashion.

Script pages and transcribed conversations should generally be based on the localization if possible.

Remakes and other re-releases

Remakes do not necessarily invalidate the original games. Each version of the story is considered to count as canon in their own right. If the events differ, both should be noted. For example, ages in Tokyo Mirage Sessions differ between the Japanese Wii U version and the Encore version on Switch.

If the events of one are not explicitly contradicted by the other, it may be considered canon. I really should figure out a better way of the ideas jumbled up in my head.
