“ | Aum works but once, but I will use it to revive a lost comrade. | ” | — Elice |
---|
Aum (Japanese: オム Om) is a powerful staff of Archanea, capable of restoring life to deceased warriors. It is usable only by women of royal lineage. Rumored by the world at large to have been lost as of the era of the War of Shadows, it had in fact located by Gharnef in the Resurrectory, a temple in Dolhr, and it was to the end of using it that Gharnef held hostage Princess Elice of Altea; she revealed this information to her brother Marth when he came to Thabes to free her. In the intervening years following the War, the staff ended up in the Dragon's Altar.
In Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, Elice is the sole wielder of Aum; afterwards, this was expanded to include all women of royal blood.[1] In Mystery of the Emblem, Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of the Emblem, Elice, Maria, and Yuliya are capable of using Aum. Caeda, Minerva and Sheena can use it in the remakes as well, but must be reclassed to a staff-wielding class and gain the requisite weapon level first.

Trivia
- In Shadow Dragon, Aum cannot resurrect the character selected as a decoy in the Prologue; this may have been foreshadowing to how, in New Mystery of the Emblem, the canon decoy (Frey) survived the decoy experience and eventually returned to serving Altea.
- Conversely, Aum can be used to revive Tiki in Shadow Dragon despite dialogue from Gotoh stating that she is not dead if she falls in battle.[2]
- In Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of the Emblem, units revived by the Aum staff will be revived "untapped"—meaning they can perform an action the turn they are revived—even if they were killed that turn, making it possible for that unit to take two actions in one turn.
