Hmmm..."dark god." "Dark god"... No, I'm pretty sure I'm not one of those. I am neither holy nor base, neither angel nor devil. I am...freedom. Chaos. Transformation. Future. Mystery. I am Yune.
— Yune

Chaos Named (Japanese: 我が名は混沌 My Name Is Chaos) is the prologue chapter of Part IV of Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. In this chapter, the dark god sealed within the medallion is released, but she reveals that the nature of the gods is not as everyone thought it to be.

Plot

Janaff and Ulki use their superior sight and hearing to scout the area, but they find that almost everyone but Ike's and Micaiah's armies have been turned to stone. "Micaiah" then speaks up, and when asked who she truly is, she refers to herself as Yune, and explains that Micaiah allowed her the use of her body. She reveals that she was the being that was sealed in the medallion, but denies that she is any sort of dark god, and defines herself as chaos. She also explains that the blast that turned everyone to stone was the doing of not her, but her sister, the goddess Ashera; she also states that Ashera is not strictly a good god, but simply defines her as order. Ike and the others are confused by this, given the known history of Ashera, but Yune is offended by this, and instead speaks to Mist. Yune explains that, when she sleeps, Ashera sleeps as well, so when Yune was awoken, Ashera was as well.

Yune then tells a story of Tellius's past: the beorc and laguz once promised to Ashera that they would not war for a thousand years and that, if they did, Ashera would destroy the world and restart it. With the promise broken, Ashera cast her judgment on the people. When Ike asks why the galdr of release was necessary to awaken her, Yune answers only to Mist, saying that, if she was awakened by the chaos of war, no one would be left standing from Ashera's judgment, and that being awakened by the galdr meant she had to consult with Yune first. Unhappy with Ashera still casting judgment anyway, Yune asks everyone to help her. Though confused by these revelations, everyone agrees, including Sanaki, who was taught that Ashera was holy and protecting. Sothe, while slightly reluctant at first, also agrees, and he and Ike are grateful that they do not need to fight each other. To keep Ashera from noticing everyone at once, Yune proposes that they divide into three groups and approach the Tower of Guidance with three different routes, though before they do, Yune grants Ike great power to aid him.

Once the three armies are sorted out, Yune leaves Micaiah's body and travels to the Tower of Guidance as a bird. Before everyone leaves, Ena gives sending stones to the herons, allowing the three armies to communicate with each other. Ranulf then calls out to Ike, and he reveals to him that General Zelgius is actually the Black Knight, and that he figured that out when the two clashed in the Ribahn. The three armies then go their separate ways.

In the capital of Begnion, Duke Lekain delivers news to survivors that the "dark god" has awakened, and declares that they, the Disciples of Order, are chosen to stop her. Meanwhile, Micaiah's company decides to stop in a small town on their way to Begnion. Naesala, after lamenting his own sins, encounters Skrimir, who threatens to destroy him for them. Leanne and Nealuchi protect Naesala, only for him to grab them and fly up. He asks Skrimir not to kill him, saying there is someone else who wants to kill him more than Skrimir does.

As the army sleeps, Micaiah wakes them up, alerting them on incoming enemies. She senses that the enemy army is massive, and they then arrive, proving her right. Sanaki joins Micaiah and her army in the fight, despite the wishes of Sigrun. Everyone takes position, and they prepare to defend themselves. Sanaki recognizes the enemies as Begnion citizens, but they declare her a fraud, and begin attacking. When Sigrun and Skrimir wonder how the soldiers could be so powerful, Yune explains that they were blessed by Ashera, and that she freed those who would pledge loyalty to her. She expands on this, saying it is the same kind of blessing given to the Black Knight and Ragnell, only weaker due to how many received it. Yune tells the army that she wants to bless them as well, but does not have the power to do so yet. With the enemies cleared, most of the army goes back to sleep.

Micaiah and Sothe then speak in private, and she tells him that the voice she heard many times before warning her was in fact Yune. Yune then grants Sothe greater power to protect Micaiah. Afterwards, Sothe notes to Micaiah that they distinctly heard the disciples call Lekain when attacking them. With Lekain alive, this gives the two another chance to end the blood pact binding Daein once and for all. Sigrun and Sanaki eavesdrop on the conversation, and Micaiah's ability to hear a goddess' voice begins to disquiet Sanaki.

Beginning log

Ashera, the Goddess of Order, has awakened. Her righteous fury has turned nearly all of the warring soldiers to stone. Yune, the Goddess of Chaos, has also awakened. Freed from Lehran's Medallion, she counsels Ike and his companions to split into three groups and make for the Tower of Guidance. Micaiah is joined by her constant companion, Sothe. General Skrimir also accompanies her, along with Naesala and Princess Leanne. Apostle Sanaki rounds out the group, traveling with her chief bodyguard, Sigrun, and others. Micaiah's company decides on a southern route and sets out for Begnion. Save for the sounds of the local wildlife, their path is eerily silent and empty. It's as though they have stepped into a vast and desolate monument to the war.

Before the start of the chapter proper, the player is prompted to allocate all units into three separate armies: the Silver Army, led by Micaiah; the Greil Army, led by Ike; and the Hawk Army, led by Tibarn. Each army can have a maximum of 20 units allocated to it. All three armies have access to the combined supply convoy and funds of the former Apostle's Army and Daein Army.

This chapter follows the Silver Army; Micaiah, Sothe, Leanne, Skrimir, and Sigrun are all available regardless of player choice. Any other returning units shown above are available only if they were allocated to the Silver Army at the beginning of Part 4.

Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

As mentioned before, the player is free to allocate most of their units to any of the three different teams. While they are free to choose to their heart's content, bear in mind that some of the upcoming chapters have terrain obstacles that some units may have difficulty overcoming:

  • The Silver Army will have a desert rout map. The desert terrain will lower the movement range of all non-magic grounded units. The player can assign flying units to overcome this, though there are a handful of bow and crossbow users, the latter being extremely dangerous to non-wyvern flying units. Magic units are extremely useful here due to not being affected by the desert; Soren cannot be allocated to the Silver Army due to being a mandatory unit in the Greil Army.
  • The Hawk Army has a swamp map, which also reduces the movement range of all grounded units. Flying units are most valued there, especially due to the lack of bow/crossbow and wind magic users.
  • The Greil Army, unlike the other two teams, is relatively risk free in regards to terrain. Mounted units are at less risk here.

Once the player confirms their choice of which team their units will join, they cannot go back and make any changes. So make sure you are satisfied and confident with your decisions before advancing.

This is also the first chapter to feature enemies from the Disciples of Order faction. Be careful to note that, although they appear lower leveled than enemies from Part 3, they are actually stronger; their classes are not the standard second-tier classes used by player units and prior enemies. Instead, they use a set of enemy-exclusive variants of those classes with increased stats—stats that are nearly on par with those of the third-tier classes.

While it may seem too early and unusual to consider doing, be sure to have at least 3,000 Gold by Chapter 4-5. It is needed to recruit a familiar character who will be involved in a base conversation in Endgame who will give the player huge amounts of gold and is a very powerful unit in his own right. This should not be a problem, as the player would very likely be loaded with huge sums of gold at this point.

Trivia

  • The Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn Prima Strategy Guide erroneously states that two Master Crowns can be found in this chapter, which is only true for the Japanese version of the game.[1]
