Beginning log

The Begnion Empire, the largest nation on the continent, is a theocracy dedicated to the goddess Ashera. Reigning from the summit of the empire and guiding the world with the voice of the goddess, the apostle Sanaki rules Begnion. As Ashera's chosen vessel, the apostle is showered with love and respect from the entire nation. Seven imperial senators aid the apostle in the governance of her realm. This system of government has been the backbone of Begnion for many long centuries. After Ike and his company aid the apostle, her holy guard takes them to the imperial capital, Sienne. The upper class of Begnion society live lives of pampered comfort and luxury. Known as the Sainted, these elite power brokers reside in massive temple-like homes whose spires dominate the skyline. The Guiding Tower overlooks all from the heart of the city. Here, Ashera holds her vigil, watching over the world. Surrounding the tower is a series of temples, both large and small, placed in an orderly, systematic fashion. One temple, however, is conspicuously larger than the others. It is the grand temple Mainal, home to the apostle. Ike and his company, used to the freedoms of Crimea, find the differences in culture and custom to be very confusing.

Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

Ah, Fog of War, everyone's favorite mechanic (on Difficult and Maniac modes, at least). This map should be on the easy side without it, but as is, it makes safe approaches a little tougher. As a reminder, thieves have improved vision in the fog, so Volke and Sothe are handy deployments. There's also an annoying enemy (or two, on Maniac) hiding in the bottom right ready to attack your backline if you're not careful.

Houses with treasure are in the upper left, and the boss is in the upper right. Makalov is also in the upper left of the map if you'd like to recruit him, but be warned he is aggressive and will not "recruit himself" even if Marcia is in range - so be careful. The safest approach would be to head to the upper left first as a team, then hit the upper right, but this will cost you a few turns if you're looking to maximize your bonus XP. Splitting your team such that some fast units like Lethe, Marcia, and Cavaliers head to the top left homes while taking out enemies, and the rest of the team heads to the center of the map is a bit more efficient.

As you approach the final bridge to the top right area, the boss will unleash Feral Ones on you. On lower difficulties, they won't move, but on Maniac they will, so tanky units fast enough to not be doubled are a good call to hold the bridge. Once they arrive, the Laguz Lance and Laguz Bow enemies drop here can be immediately turned around and used on the Feral Tigers if you'd like. Having a mage burn them with fire also works.

Gashilama, the boss, is packing a Killer Axe. If you can see him and can control your approach, then range 2 chipping followed by a killing blow should work as usual, but a crit is, as usual, very scary! It's probably worth losing a turn on the clear time if it makes the fight with him more reliable, as letting him engage on your units is risky. He won't move on Normal or Difficult, at least.

Trivia

  • Calill makes a cameo appearance when visiting the southern village.
  • Lethe and Mordecai have a special conversation with the two feral laguz:
Lethe: H-hey! You're a Gallian! Why are you guarding these humans?
    Soldier: Grraaaooowwwrrr!
Lethe: You...are not sane, are you? What have these human scum done to you?
    Soldier: Grraaoowwrr! Grraaaooowwwrrr!
Lethe: Ah, my poor laguz brother... I will destroy you myself... and end you pain.
Mordecai: You are like me. You are laguz. A brother tiger, you are.
    Soldier: Grraaaooowwwrrr!
Mordecai: But...you seem mad... You do not recognize a friend.
    Soldier: Grraaoowwrr! Grraaaooowwwrrr!
Mordecai: I must end this. I am sorry.
