Introduction

After Roy captures Aquileia, powers in Etruria turn against the revolution. Driven away from the palace, Roartz and Arcardo flee to Sacae, which remains under Bern's control. Sacae lies in the center of the continent and is covered in plains. Before Bern's invasion, it was home to numerous nomadic clans.

The Etrurian Army joins the Lycian Army to form a unified force. The decision is made for this army to head for Sacae with dual purpose. The first is to eliminate the remnants of the revolution, and the second is to begin an offensive against Bern. Realizing that Etrurian soldiers may not fight under the Lycian banner, Roy formally decides to call his force the Etrurian Army. Roy is to lead the division that will begin the offensive in Sacae.

The people of Sacae are wary of outsiders, which is challenge enough, but Brunnya, one of Bern's three Wyvern Generals, has the Djute, the largest clan in Sacae, under her control. With the warriors of the Djute and Brunnya's elite troops in his way, Roy knows it is unlikely he will find any respite in this foreign land...

Opening

(Inside Castle Talas)

Brunnya: ...Then Narcian fell at Aquileia.
Soldier: Yes, milady. We've received confirmation.
Brunnya: I see...
Roartz: Lady Brunnya... What will you have us do?
Brunnya: You have our protection, Lord Roartz. You have helped us so much already. We shall not neglect you.
Arcardo: I thank you...
Brunnya: Lord Arcardo, I assign you to defend this land of Talas. Lord Roartz, your post will be the city of Bulgar.
Arcardo: Talas?! Here?! But this is so close to Aquileia. The enemy draws near!
Brunnya: Then stop them in their tracks. This region's proximity to Aquileia makes it strategically invaluable. It would be an ideal base of operations if the enemy can be repelled.
Arcardo: That much is true...
Roartz: Bulgar... lies deep within Sacae. I hear there is great unrest among the nomads...
Brunnya: Force them into submission. That is your specialty, is it not?
Arcardo: I suppose, but...
Brunnya: Rumor says that Roy, commander of the attacking army, is but a boy. Even so, he has led his army to victory through countless skirmishes and traps. Under his guidance, the Lycian Army has been rebuilt stronger than ever. He has gone through greater hardships than you, yet you complain? Do you intend to lose to a child?
Arcardo: ......
Brunnya: I must be off. I pray for your success.
Arcardo & Roartz: ......

(Brunnya leaves Arcardo and Roartz)

Soldier: ...Are you certain we should leave them? They will surely fall.
Brunnya: They are disgraceful cowards who cast away their homeland to save their necks. We owe them nothing. They should be grateful to receive the few troops they have.

(Outside, to the northwest)

Yoder: We will soon approach the Etrurian border.
Roy: Thank you for everything, Father Yoder. We've only made it this far thanks to the assistance of the church.
Yoder: I am only repaying your favor. Had you not captured Aquileia, we would suffer great persecution from Bern. This is nothing compared to what you did for us.
Roy: It was my pleasure to help the church.
Yoder: If I may be so bold... Can I ask one more favor?
Roy: Of course, if I am capable.
Yoder: If you discover anything else about the dragons...
Roy: Say no more. If I find anything new, I will report to you immediately.
Yoder: You have my eternal thanks. ...Oh yes, one word of caution before you go. The lands around here... They are surrounded by high mountains and hills. It is also difficult to see in the dark of the night...
Roy: These are ideal conditions for an ambush...
Yoder: Exactly. Castle Talas up ahead is under Bern's control.
Roy: I'll bear that in mind. Thank you for the advice.
Yoder: Not at all. May the Etrurian Army go with Saint Elimine's blessing.

Ending

(Inside Castle Talas)

Merlinus: Lord Arcardo... What a pathetic ending for one of his stature.
Roy: A year ago I myself never imagined I would be leading an army. Fate can be unpredictable... Perhaps we'll even be able to turn the tides against Bern.
Merlinus: ...? Lord Roy, what is that in your hand?
Roy: Oh, this? It's the Fire Emblem.
Merlinus: That tiny gemstone...?
Roy: Princess Guinivere wanted me to keep it. It seemed... difficult for her to give it to me... I think she still hoped to end the war with diplomacy...
Merlinus: Hm... Perhaps she had faith in her brother, even if that seems unlikely.
Roy: Why do you say that?
Merlinus: Because Zephiel is the treacherous king of Bern! It is said that he murdered his own father. I don't expect he would be moved by family trust...
Roy: He killed his own father?!
Merlinus: Haven't you heard the rumors, Lord Roy? Zephiel took the throne because his father, King Desmond, passed on. But King Desmond's death was very sudden.
Roy: So there are rumors...?
Merlinus: ...Yes, that Zephiel assassinated him.
Roy: Does Princess Guinivere know about this?
Merlinus: I'm sure she is at least aware of the rumors. She may even know the whole story.
Roy: ......
