Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Sherpa is a unit that is largely defined by him being the only playable unit that has the Counter skill, which allows him to do a full counterattack even after being hit by an enemy initiation attack. This pairs well with both his prf weapon, the Brymranger and one of his other skills, Robust. The Brymranger is a sword with 16 might and attacks three times, while Robust is a skill that prevents Sherpa from ever being crippled, meaning he will always be able to counter at 0-1 range with a full 3 attacks from the Brymranger except in very unlikely scenarios such as the (still unknown) chance of an axe hit disarming him. As Sherpa has the ability to use accessory items, he can use the Muscle Brace to increase his strength by 1, which gives him enough Attack speed to be able to counter 1-range enemies at base level with the Brymranger. The Brymranger does have the downside of effectively making Sherpa's avoid 0 at almost all times, though usually, his base stats are going to be enough to survive at least two hits, meaning he can take on two enemies with a high chance of killing them in retaliation, without having to use his own action to do so. This is a very valuable ability because nobody else in the game can kill on retaliation as reliably. The Brymranger also is an effective option against stronger enemies, as it can output burst damage rivaling Shirrock.
Of course, with having no access to shields as well as having a weapon that reduces his avoid by 50, Sherpa is often not going to be a good choice for taking on many enemies at once. He is not going to simply take out everyone on his own, but neither is anyone really, so the player may want to pair Sherpa along with a more durable unit on the frontline, such as Ward or Clifford to move into place and prevent Sherpa from being attacked by more enemies than he can reasonably withstand. Finally, Sherpa's light infantry movement gives him a significant advantage over units with standard infantry movement, as well as mounted units in some scenarios, as light infantry units use only 1 move to traverse cliffs and shoals, with similar benefits on other rough terrains. This is especially helpful in maps with many cliffs, forests, or shoals, and is just strictly better than having standard infantry movement. Overall, Sherpa possesses unrivaled retaliation damage paired with decent durability and decent movement, making him one of the best melee fighters in the game.
