Introduction

The chaos caused by the coup at Aquileia quickly spreads to the rest of Etruria. Cecilia escapes with Guinivere from Aquileia. She also forms a loyalist group to combat the revolutionaries. The revolutionaries, however, have Bern on their side. King Mordred has also been taken hostage, giving the revolutionaries another edge: Great General Douglas and Knight General Perceval are forced into their service. With so much power, the revolutionaries easily push the loyalists ouf of Etruria.

The loyalists are driven into an old castle on the Missur Peninsula. Roy learns that Cecilia has been forced back by the revolutionaries. In response, Roy heads for Missur. The loyalists are under attack by both revolutionaries and Bern's military. With such adversity, the loyalists' forces have little time...

Opening

(Outside the castle)

Narcian: You haven't taken the castle yet?!
Flaer: Sire, the loyalists led by General Cecilia fight harder than anticipated...
Narcian: Cecilia...! That woman! She interferes in my work yet again!

(Zephiel and Idunn arrive)

Zephiel: You seem to be having trouble, Narcian.
Idunn: ......
Narcian: Y-Your Majesty?! When... did you arrive?
Zephiel: Just this moment. The general from Etruria fights well, I see.
Narcian: Yes, Your Majesty... But everything will soon be under our control.
Zephiel: Allow me. I will squash her myself.
Idunn: Your Highness, there is no need...
Zephiel: These arms could use some exercise. It's no bother. Bring me to her, Narcian.

(Away from the castle, on the small island Kafti)

Roy: What's the latest?
Merlinus: The castle has yet to all, Lord Roy.
Roy: Good! We still have time.

(The battle starts)

In battle

At the start of turn 1, enemy phase

(Outside the castle)

Zephiel: So you are Cecilia, Mage General of Etruria.
Cecilia: ...King Zephiel...
Zephiel: You fight well. I reward you with the honor of dueling me.
Cecilia: ......

(Scripted battle scene: Cecilia battles Zephiel. Cecilia attacks with Aircalibur, but misses. Zephiel attacks with Eckesachs, dealing a critical hit and defeating her in one blow)

Cecilia: You're too... powerful...

(Cecilia disappears from the map)

Zephiel: She lost consciousness... How disappointing. I expected more.
Narcian: Your Majesty! Untouchable as always!
Zephiel: I suppose it was foolish to expect a challenge from an Etrurian.
Narcian: If you would allow it, Your Majesty, will you leave her to me?
Zephiel: Why?
Narcian: She has caused me... certain difficulties. I want to see that she suffers for them.
Zephiel: Hmph. Very well. Do as you wish.
Narcian: Thank you, Your Majesty.
Narcian: You! Ready a cell in the dungeon!
Soldier: Yes, General Narcian.

(On the eastern side of the northern bridge)

Perceval: Bern has attacked the castle?
Soldier: Yes, sir.
Perceval: ...This wasn't in the agreement. They promised to leave Etrurian matters to us of Etruria.
Soldier: What shall we do?
Perceval: Was it General Narcian who made the order to attack the castle?
Soldier: No, sir. It was King Zephiel himself.
Perceval: Really! The king himself... Then Bern never saw us as partners to begin with. We will observe for now and fall back in time.
Soldier: Yes, sir!
Perceval: ......

At the start of turn 2, player phase

(Away from the castle, on the small island of Kafti)

Roy: The castle has fallen?
Merlinus: Yes... We were too late.
Roy: Is General Cecilia alright?
Merlinus: There's no report of her death, but it looks grim...
Roy: There's still a possibility that she's alive. We can't give up on her. We must hurry!

At the start of turn 2, enemy phase

(Outside the castle)

Narcian: Your Majesty! We have found Princess Guinivere.
Zephiel: Bring her before me.

(Narcian reveals Guinivere)

Guinivere: My brother...
Zephiel: Guinivere. So good to see you.
Guinivere: Zephiel, why? Why do you continue this war? So many innocent people have died...
Zephiel: Innocent, you say? Pah. Jealousy, vanity, greed... Men kill because of these petty emotions all across the realm. How can you say they are innocent?
Guinivere: I...
Zephiel: The world must be liberated from these trivial creations of man. That is the purpose of this war.
Guinivere: But... so many people are being killed in the process.
Zephiel: A few worthless lives are a fair trade for the change I desire.
Guinivere: Zephiel...!
Zephiel: Guinivere, you are my only sister. My only surviving blood relative. As such, I forgive you this time, but I shan't the next. You would do well to remember that.
Guinivere: ......
Zephiel: Narcian! Is the head of Guinivere's guard present?
Narcian: Yes, Your Majesty. Melady is here.
Zephiel: Good. Have her take Guinivere back to Bern. Also have her ensure the Fire Emblem is returned to the Shrine of Seals.
Narcian: Of course, Your Majesty.
Guinivere: Zephiel...

(Zephiel, Narcian, and Guinivere enter the castle)

At the start of turn 3, player phase

(Inside the castle)

Guinivere: Melady...
Melady: Your Highness, I am please to see you safe. Now, let us return to Bern... Your Highness?
Guinivere: Melady!
Melady: W-what are you doing?! Put that sword down before you hurt yourself!
Guinivere: Let me free, Melady!
Melady: What?! ...And what will Your Highness do if she is freed?
Guinivere: ...I understand that Roy and the Lycian Army are nearby...
Melady: You would join the enemy?!
Guinivere: I cannot sit idly by and watch as the world is overrun by Bern's forces... No matter the reason, it is still the same violent conquest. What kind of future will this war lead us to...?
Melady: ......
Guinivere: Melady, I ask you to let me go.
Melady: ...There is just...
Guinivere: Yes?
Melady: There is just one thing I wish to ask, Your Highness. When you left Bern, why did you not ask me for my opinion...?
Guinivere: I thought involving you would damage your reputation. I didn't want you to be branded a traitor like me.
Melady: Does Your Highness honestly think I would ever pay any mind to that? I serve Your Highness before I serve Bern. It has been so since I was knighted.
Guinivere: Melady...
Melady: If you tell me to let you go, then with pleasure, I will. I ask only one favor of you. Allow me to accompany you.
Guinivere: Melady... Thank you...

(Melady and Guinivere leave the castle and fly toward Roy)

Melady: Please lower your weapons! I am not an enemy!
Roy: What? Soldiers, let her through!
Merlinus: Lord Roy, it may be a trick...
Roy: She could be a messenger. There is no honor in killing a messenger.
Merlinus: ......
Melady: Are you General Roy?
Roy: ...Yes. And you are?
Guinivere: Roy!
Roy: Princess Guinivere?! You're unharmed!
Guinivere: Yes... I escaped with her assistance.
Melady: My name is Melady. It is a pleasure to meet you.
Guinivere: Roy, General Cecilia is alive.
Roy: R-really?
Guinivere: Yes, truly. She is gravely wounded, but she is alive. She is locked in a cell in the castle.
Roy: Thank you! We have to rescue her!

(Melady joins the army)

At the start of turn 3, enemy phase

(Inside the castle)

Zephiel: Are they ready?
Idunn: Yes, the dragons are prepared to fight at your command.
Zephiel: Narcian. I will give you some dragons to fortify your legion. I want you to go with your troops to Nabata after cleaning up here.
Narcian: Nabata? The desert lands to the east of here?
Zephiel: Correct. There is tell of a hidden village in the desert. Dragons have supposedly been living there since the Scouring.
Narcian: Ah, now I understand... A legendary weapon is likely hidden there.
Zephiel: Precisely. It must not fall into enemy hands. I sent some men in already, but they seem to be outnumbered.
Narcian: Leave it to me, Your Majesty. The village shall be ours.
Zephiel: ...I trust that it will. Do not disappoint me.
Narcian: You can rest easy, Your Majesty! By my honor as a Wyvern General, I will not fail you!

(Zephiel and Idunn leave the map to the right)

At the start of turn 4, player phase

(Inside the castle dungeon)

Cecilia: ...Oh... Where am I...?
Sophia: You're not well yet... You mustn't move...
Cecilia: Did you treat my wounds?
Sophia: Yes... I'm not an expert, however... My work may leave something to be desired...
Cecilia: No, it's fine. Thank you. We must find a way out of here...
Cecilia: ...Ow...!
Sophia: Don't move... Your wound will open...
Cecilia: But I must do something...
Sophia: Everything will be fine... I see a light... It will arrive shortly...
Cecilia: A light?
Sophia: Yes... A light that will aid us... We must wait patiently...
Cecilia: Who are you...?
Sophia: I am Sophia... A shaman of Arcadia..
Cecilia: What is Arcadia?
Sophia: I will tell you more later... For now, please just trust me...

Player phase once any unit crosses column 22 after turn 3

(Outside the castle)

(Flaer flies toward Narcian)

Flaer: General Narcian! It's them! The Lycian Army!
Narcian: What?! Flaer, you cad! I thought you took care of them at Juteaux!
Flaer: I did! Well... I left a dragon to deal with them... I never thought they would survive!
Narcian: Disregarding your failure, my reputation is at stake! They defeated a dragon, so they must be more hardy than I expected. Yet if I can't defeat them here, people will doubt my ability...
Flaer: General Narcian... What should we do...?
Narcian: There is only one thing we CAN do... Flaer. I will return to Aquileia and prepare to face the Lycian Army. You stay here.
Flaer: What?! M-me...? Stay here?
Narcian: Don't worry. I don't expect you to defeat them. All I want is for you to hit them as hard as you can and soften them up a bit.
Flaer: General Narcian! You intend to use me as fodder?!
Narcian: Flaer... In truth, you should be executed for failing to take the Western Isles. I am giving you one last chance to prove that you aren't a complete failure. You should thank me, if anything. Hm hm hm...
Flaer: But...!
Narcian: I can personally execute you now if you prefer.
Flaer: ......
Flaer: Yes... sire... I understand.
Narcian: Good. Then I bid you adieu.

(Narcian leaves the map to the right)

At the start of turn 9, player phase, if Perceval has not been recruited

Soldier: Yes, General Perceval?
Perceval: We're leaving.
Soldier: What? Are you sure?
Perceval: Bern's actions are an insult to Etruria. I cannot aid Bern any further. We must return to Aquileia. I will inform General Douglas of this and plan a new course of action. Fall back at once!
Soldier: Yes, sir!

(Perceval and his soldiers leave the map to the right)

Talk conversations

Elffin talks to Perceval

Elffin: Perceval. It is good to see you.
Perceval: You're...!!
Elffin: Have you forgotten my face?
Perceval: No... I could never. But it cannot be... The prince...is dead.
Elffin: ...I understand your confusion. A man who was declared dead stands before your very eyes.
Perceval: Prince Myrddin! It is you...!!
Elffin: I'm sorry to have put you through such trouble. ...It has already been over a year since the attempt on my life.
Perceval: Attempt on your life?! I thought Your Highness fell off his horse in an accident.
Elffin: I was hit with poisoned darts. One to my horse... and one to myself...
Perceval: No...
Elffin: Douglas was the first to notice and made it public that I had died. A look-alike corpse was placed in my coffin. It was all an act to make it appear that the assassination had been successful. Douglas entrusted me to his daughter and had me escape to the Western Isles.
Perceval: Sir Douglas knew all this time...
Elffin: Even after I escaped west, the poison had me ill for many months. I drifted between life and death for so long that Douglas' daughter nearly lost hope.
Perceval: ......
Elffin: The resistance force nursed me back to health. Ironic, isn't it? The resistance, enemy of the nobility, saved the life of the prince of Etruria!
Perceval: ......
Elffin: My recovery... was slow. I saw the crimes committed by Etrurian nobles firsthand. I felt so ashamed that I had never noticed while I was on the throne.
Perceval: Your Highness...
Elffin: As I aided the resistance, I waited for my chance to return to the mainland. Then along came Roy, and I knew it was time. That is how I ended up here.
Perceval: My prince... I am thankful beyond words that you are alive.
Elffin: I am now with the Lycian Army, and my identity must remain hidden. However, if I still have the loyalty you pledged to me in the past...
Perceval: Until the day I die, my prince. I have only one master, and it is you, Prince Myrddin.

(Perceval joins the army, his accompanying soldiers become NPCs)

Larum talks to Perceval

Larum: Sir Perceval! It is you, isn't it? I've been looking for you! I am...

(Perceval attempts to leave)

Larum: Wait! Wait! Stop! Listen to me!
Perceval: ...Who are you?
Larum:You don't remember?! We met before.
Perceval: ...I think I recall seeing you at Douglas's manor.
Larum: Yes! That's me.
Perceval: But the girl I met then was far less... garish.
Larum: What's that supposed to mean? Ah, never mind. My name is Larum. I'm here on the orders of Prince Myrddin.
Perceval: Prince Myrddin...? Don't be daft. The prince passed away in an accident over a year ago.
Larum: Yeah, well... Look at this!
Perceval: That emblem...!! It belonged to the prince...!
Larum: Now do I have your attention? Look at this letter, too. The prince told me to give it to you.
Perceval: ......
Perceval: His Highness's handwriting... He lives! I hesitate no more. If the prince is in the Lycian Army, then I am as well.
Larum: Wha-? That was quick... I was hoping things would get a litte more dramatic. Like, "If you want my skill, you'll have to best me first!" Oh well. This works too.

(Perceval joins the army, his accompanying soldiers become NPCs)

Houses/Villages

The northwestern village

Young Man: Here, take this ring. It will build up your muscles when you use it. ...It might make the ladies a little less attractive, though.

(Body Ring)

The northwestern house

Young Boy: Cecilia, Perceval, and Douglas! They're the three Etrurian Generals. Even the three Wyvern Generals of Bern are no match for them. ...That's what I'd like to think, anyway.

The northeastern house

Middle-aged Man: General Cecilia... She was defeated in one blow... King Zephiel is more powerful than any of us could have imagined...

The southeastern village

Middle-aged Man: I thought I'd try to defend myself with this sword, but I don't know how to use it. It's a nice sword though, isn't it? The last one to use it was a kid named Al. He was a courageous one, and he stood up to Bern, just like you. Here. I'll give it to you. Use it to end this war!

(Al's Sword)

The southeastern house

Young woman: General Perceval still swears loyalty to Prince Myrddin even after his passing. Loyal and hard-working to the end. That's what I call a real man...

Battle quotes

Flaer enters combat

Flaer: You've made it... But I am a knight of Bern! I will not surrender!

Flaer dies

Flaer: I am... nothing... next to Bern's greatest warriors... You will be defeated eventuallly... Be sure of it...

Ending

(Inside the castle)

Roy: General Cecilia!
Cecilia: Roy... I failed. I'm so ashamed.
Roy: The important thing is that you are alive... But how are your wounds? Are you all right?
Cecilia: Yes, I'm fine. This girl treated them for me.
Roy: Who is she?
Sophia: I am Sophia... A shaman of Arcadia...
Cecilia: She foresaw your coming. She also said she would explain her story once we had time.
Sophia: Yes, now is fine... Arcadia, my home, lies to the east in the Nabata desert... We have always kept hidden... but Bern discovered our existence... and...
Roy: They attacked?
Sophia: Yes... I... was too slow to act, so I was captured...
Roy: Why would Bern attack a small village like yours?
Sophia: I do not know... Perhaps they learned of the dragons that live in Arcadia...
Roy: Dragons?!
Sophia: That's right... Arcadia was founded by both dragon and man ages ago...
Roy:...I never knew such a place existed...
Sophia: Lord Roy... Please, save our village...
Merlinus: Her story seems too fantastic to be true.
Sophia: ......
Roy: Dragons or no, I believe her when she says Bern attacked her village. Sophia, we are in your debt for saving General Cecilia. We owe it to you to do what we can to save your village.
Sophia: ...Thank you...
Roy: Can you tell me more about this Arcadia? And the dragons?
Sophia: ...Yes... I will gladly tell you all that I know...
