The Ranger (Japanese: レンジャー Ranger) is a basic lord-like class exclusive to Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, as an initial class unique to the game's protagonist Ike. It is statistically near-identical to the Mercenary class of other games, possessing balanced stats with an emphasis on strength, skill, and speed. With great offensive stats and solid defensive stats, held back only by its poor resistance, Ike as a Ranger is a formidable front-line presence in battle even before promoting. It promotes solely through an event into the Lord class at the end of Chapter 17, when Elincia knights Ike as a nobleman of Crimea.

Trivia

Ike attacking at range with the Sonic Sword as a Ranger in Path of Radiance (not possible in normal gameplay)
  • Ike has a unique battle animation when attacking at range with a 1-2 range sword as a Ranger (pictured to the right), which is different from the one used as a Lord. This cannot be seen in normal gameplay however, as there are no 1-2 range swords that can be obtained prior to Ike's promotion to the Lord class. It can only be seen if one modifies their game by way of an Action Replay or similar device to give Ike the Sonic Sword (the Runesword requires an A rank in swords, which unpromoted classes cannot reach).
