Land of Sorrow (Gaiden)/Siege of Nuibaba's Abode
| ||||
|
“ | An unsettling face peered down at them through the pitch black darkness. It was the legendary arcanist Nuibaba, mistress of Fear Mountain and terror to all. By offering up her soul, she had purchased the very darkest of sortilege: a single word from her lips was enough to snuff out life itself. Why did Alm go to this place? And what exactly did he hope to find upon that terrible peak? | ” | — Opening narration |

Strategy
This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody. |
Nuibaba's Medusa spell has 1–5 range, and her Mage Ring increases her range to 1–7; there is no range a unit can attack from without suffering a counter attack. If a unit is hit by Medusa, they drop to 1 HP; if they are already at 1 HP, they die. Nuibaba cannot kill any unit with more than one HP, but any units hit by Medusa will be left considerably vulnerable to further combat with her or other enemies. The magic damage-halving effects of Apotrope from a Dread Fighter and the Hexlock Shield that can be found in the Fear Mountain Shrine will take effect, instead having Medusa halve HP; stacking both will have Medusa drop HP by 25%. If a magic user without a Hexlock Shield is hit by Medusa, they will have too little HP to cast any spells but Nosferatu. Medusa is extremely heavy, and Nuibaba can be doubled by any unit with more than 5 speed on Hard. Nuibaba can be one-shot by any unit with 56 physical attack or 58 magical attack, or can be two-shot with 34 physical or 36 magical attack.
The Cantor on the map summons Gargoyles, which are the only enemies that will leave the manor to find player units not in their immediate range. The player's units start at the bottom of the map, and at least two waves of Gargoyles will usually appear. The Gargoyles are not likely to threaten units with decent defense, but can be a threat to units with low defense and speed; however, any units hit by Medusa will be in danger of being killed by Gargoyles.
The Bow Knight can kill units hit by Medusa fairly safely, and has an Iron Bow on Hard mode to dissuade fliers from rushing in. The Bow Knight is not particularly strong and can fairly reliably defeated by a Sniper, but most areas the Bow Knight can attack, Nuibaba can as well—the areas to the side of the manor can be reached by the Bow Knight and not Nuibaba, but the mountain tiles can only be entered by a non-mounted units. The three Dread Fighters and four Arcanists make it extremely dangerous to leave a unit inside the manor. The Dread Fighters are likely to double everything but another Dread Fighter. The Arcanists have Fortify or Recover, and will heal most or all of the enemies if left alive.
With Warp and Rescue, a strong unit can be warped to attack Nuibaba, then rescued to safety; Silque will learn Warp at level 7, and Shade will learn Rescue at level 10 and Faye at level 10 as a Cleric. Without Rescue, Silque can Warp units into useful positions; the tile five tiles south of Nuibaba can only be reached by Nuibaba, one Archanist, and the Bow Knight, and a Sniper can be warped there and engage them fairly safely—especially if given the Hexlock Shield—though her high avoid on the supply tile will make the Sniper's hits unreliable.
