Imitate (Japanese: 変身 Transform) is a skill which debuted in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light. It is exclusive to Xane, the only member of the Freelancer class, and allows him to transform into a near-exact duplicate of an ally for a short period of time. The skill has several limitations, in that Xane cannot copy his allies' weapons and items and has to supply his own, and certain skills belonging to other classes cannot be imitated.

Fire Emblem Cipher

Imitate is present as a skill on Xane's only card in Fire Emblem Cipher: B01-045HN Shape-Shifter, Xane. It is a manual-activation skill which, for the cost of flipping two bond cards, allows Xane to copy all skills and attributes, aside from name and attack power, from one ally of the player's choosing for the remainder of the turn. Imitate does not use up Xane's turn, allowing him to put acquired skills to use immediately.

Trivia

  • In Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, if Xane imitates a unit of a class whose battle sprites vary depending on gender, Xane will always use the male battle sprites, no matter whom he imitates (e.g. he will use the male Curate sprites if imitating Lena). This was fixed in future titles.
