— Ike doing one of his victory poses

Ike is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, available by default from the beginning of the game. While slow and weighty, he has a great amount of strength, thanks to the power of the sword Ragnell, which he uses in the game. His recovery is very poor due to being predictable and very low. Ike's combo is noteworthy to talk about which his jab being a very good starting combo in low percent. His aerials are safe due to the range of the move and are very powerful. Ike's flaws and strengths are balanced into him which currently ranks him in number 23 on the current tier list, in D tier.

Ike appears The Subspace Emissary, Brawl's story mode, which he is first seen performing an Aether on Ancient Minister, whom he joins Marth and Meta Knight in which he pursues them to join to the Subspace Army through the desert. During their desert exploration, they fight and defeat the Subspace boss Galleom, who they send tumbling into the ruins below. Ike later joins with the rest of the characters in an attack on Subspace itself. Ike's and everyone else attempt was a complete failure, along with everyone else, is turned into a trophy by Tabuu, but is freed by Ness, Luigi, Kirby, and King Dedede, and can be chosen into defeating Tabuu.

Special moves

  • Eruption (Japanese: 噴火 Eruption): Ike's standard special move. Ike lifts Ragnell up and it ignites. When the move is fully charged or the special button is released, Ike will bring Ragnell down and create an eruption. In Brawl only, the eighth stage of Eruption is a one-hit KO.
  • Quick Draw (Japanese: 居合い斬り Quick-Draw Cutter): Ike's side special move. Ike lifts Ragnell behind him and charges forward when fully charged or when the special button is released. The distance the move travels depends on how long the move is charged.
  • Aether (Japanese: 天空 Sky): Ike's up special move. Ike throws Ragnell above him and leaps after it, before performing three somersaults with it extended then descending directly downward. The move ends when Ike hits a surface, the ledge, or falls to the bottom blast zone. The move could be used as a sacrificial KO.
  • Counter (Japanese: カウンター Counter): Ike's down special move. Ike assumes a brief defensive stance and will retaliate if struck in this stance, cancelling the foe's attack and dealing to the foe more damage than Ike would have sustained.
  • Great Aether (Japanese: 大天空 Great Aether): Ike's Final Smash. Ike swings Ragnell above him, knocking the opponent upwards. Ike then precedes to attack the opponent, dealing massive damage, before swinging Ragnell downward and spiking the opponent.

Trophies

Ike

He's a man of few words whose blunt manner gives the impression that he's uncaring, but he's actually a passionate hero. He was crucial to the reconstruction of Crimea. In Radiant Dawn, he continues to show his deep sense of honor and leads the Greil Mercenaries to the aid of the Laguz Alliance.

Ike faces a foe and swings his sword up for a hit, then tosses his sword up into the air, performs multiple nasty strikes, and finally unleashes a mighty overhand blow to send his opponent plummeting down. It's a very impressive sight, but if Ike misses with the first upward swing, he can't use the move.

Snake's Codec

Solid Snake: This swordsman's gonna be tough to beat.
Roy Campbell: Fighting Ike, eh, Snake? Ike is the leader of the Greil Mercenaries. He may look too refined to be a fighter... but he has one heck of a sword arm.
Solid Snake: Yeah, he's swinging that two-handed sword around with only one hand. I don't even want to get near him.
Roy Campbell: That's the holy blade of Ragnell. It's an extremely powerful sword. But don't forget, Snake, you're armed to the teeth yourself. To your opponents, you might just be their worst nightmare. The distance between you and your enemy is a crucial element in battle. Using that distance can give you an advantage against some enemies.
Solid Snake: Yeah, I've got the same feeling...

— Masahiro Sakurai confirming that Ike will return in Super Smash Bros. 4

Ike returns as a playable character for a second time in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. His design has been updated to match his appearance as a Hero in Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. Some of his moves were tweaked a bit and were a bit re-balanced. His strengths are noteworthy from his aerials being more powerful and can lead to other moves. His recovery is a bit better and will grant Ike more KO power when connecting with the sweet spot. Despite his strengths, Ike has flaws that hurts him. He is slow and his recvoery is still predtictable and his weight and hurtbox. Ike is currently ranked number 40 on the current tier list, in the E tier.

Palutena's Guidance

Pit: Does Ike look a little different to you? A little...tougher?
Palutena: Hmm...
Pit: His clothes look different, and his sword looks even more menacing.
Palutena: Yes, I suppose you're right.
Pit: And he definitely hasn't aged well.
Palutena: Well, compared to gods and angels like us, Ike is just a baby.
Viridi: I don't know how old you are, Pit, but you don't look like you've grown at all.
Pit: Oh, like you're one to talk! How old are you, anyway? Ten?
Viridi: A goddess never reveals her age, Pit.
Palutena: Break it up, you two. Back to Ike. He has a powerful side smash that he will send you flying, but that's also his weakness.
Viridi: He's very vulnerable at that time, so dodge it and strike back!
Pit: I claim this victory in the name of Skyworld! SKYWORLD! SKYWORLD!
Viridi: YEAH! SKYWORLD! SKYWORLD! SKYWORLD! SKYWORLD!

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

SSBU Ike.png
SSB.png This article or section is a short summary of Ike/Super Smash Bros. series.
SmashWiki features a more in-depth article.

Ike returns as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, this time defaulting in his Path of Radiance appearance and with his Radiant Dawn appearance as an alternate costume.

Ike has been buffed during the transition from Smash 4 to Ultimate. Most of his moves have decreased lag and are faster overall, allowing him to use them to set up combos or KO confirms. Neutral Aerial is very notoriously used so often due to its low knockback and can lead anything into other moves or aerials. Eruption also grants three flame pillars that travel forward when fully charged, making it better for edgeguarding. As a result of these buffs, he was initially a very popular character in the early metagame but has since diminished in representation. Despite his diminished, the updates have received significant buffs which grant him more tools into new set-ups. His flaws are notable but don't hurt his strengths. Since he is a slow character, most of any agile characters can wall him out due to his weak defense. Ike's recovery is pitifully still predictable and bad. Aether can no longer clip through the stage which makes it very unsafe to use at all and characters that have counters can wall him out. Nevertheless, many people consider Ike to be viable in the current metagame and once said to be the best out of all of his iterations in all past smash games, which most people consider him to be a high-tier character. Ike isn't overbearing in the competitive scene being worse than other swordfighters like Lucina, Roy, and Chrom. But he is a very good character and is still a very good character overall.

In the World of Light, Ike was vaporized alongside everyone else except Kirby. Ike is rescued after the player first defeats Galeem and encounters Dharkon, and can be saved in Dharkon's realm.

Special moves

  • Eruption (Japanese: 噴火 Eruption): Ike's standard special move. Ike lifts Ragnell up and it ignites. When the move is fully charged or the special button is released, Ike will bring Ragnell down and create an eruption. In Ultimate, three additional pillars are sent in front of Ike after the move is fully charged.
Chrom utilizes a similar move, albeit under a different name.

Palutena's Guidance

Pit: It's Ike!
Viridi: There are two versions of Ike. The Path of Radiance version and the Radiant Dawn version.
Pit: Dawn? Radiance?
Viridi: He's basically either a mercenary or a hero.
Palutena: The two versions of Ike may look and sound a bit different, but his strength doesn't change at all.
Viridi: But one of them is three years older than the other. Shouldn't the older one be stronger?
Palutena: Yeah, you'd think the older one would have three more years of training under his belt.
Pit: Maybe he skipped three years of arm days.
Palutena: I somehow doubt that. Have you seen the way he swings that sword? One blow from that sword can do more damage than two of yours, Pit. Be careful.

The Codec Conversation talking about Ike is reused from Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
