Hapi is a DLC-exclusive unit and is among the best spellcasters in the game, boasting a varied and excellent spell list that grants her great support and combat utility. Hapi starts with a D+ in Reason, meaning that with a month of tutoring in Reason, Hapi gets access to great debuffing spells in Swarm Ζ and Banshee Θ. Swarm Ζ reduces the enemy's speed on hit, consequently reducing their avoid and attack speed and enabling another unit to more easily score the kill; Banshee Θ, which was previously restricted to Hubert, inflicts movement -5 on the enemy, which in the early game reduces most enemies' movement to zero, allowing you to negate the threat an enemy poses for one turn without needing to kill them. These debuff options are of great utility in the early chapters of Maddening mode, which are littered with fast units capable of outright one-rounding many of your units. Upon achieving a B-rank, Hapi also gets a 3-range spell in Death Γ, allowing her to attack most units without risking a counterattack, compensating for her poor defenses. With the proper build, by endgame, Hapi can attack from 6–7 spaces away, essentially nullifying her poor defenses unless you deliberately place her in enemy range. Hapi's personal skill Monstrous Appeal also has immense utility in making all of Hapi's attacks, regardless of weapon, deal bonus damage against monsters, allowing her to attack at 3-range with Death Γ for massive damage or to break a barrier or deal massive damage with Hades Ω. The supposed downside of Monstrous Appeal is that Hapi becomes the top priority target for monsters, though this downside is easily circumvented by shield breaking the monster thereby stunning it, or by using a gambit to draw its attention to a different unit. On top of Hapi's great offensive magic, she also has two great support spells in Physic and Warp which allow her to support allies outside of attacking enemies and get units to objectives faster by warping them. | ||
Hapi has a major Crest of Timotheos, which grants a 20% chance of conserving uses of recovery magic. As is the case with most crest effects, while the effect is nice, the activation rate is unreliable; moreover, the Crest of Timotheos has no associated relic or exclusive combat art, meaning the true benefit of having a crest for Hapi is that it allows her to use Heroes' Relics, like Thyrsus, without a 10 HP penalty per round of combat. Hapi also has a budding talent in Axes that when realized grants her Exhaustive Strike; despite having a decent growth rate in strength, the talent is likely best ignored, as Hapi is better off investing into her spells, and the max range an axe will have on her is 2–3, compared to the max potential magic range of 6–7. | Hapi has a major Crest of Timotheos, which grants a 20% chance of conserving uses of recovery magic. Hapi is passive and often apathetic towards others. She often questions why people perform acts of kindness for others as seen in her support conversations with Ashe and Linhardt. | |||
She often does not speak with others, as she often assumes people try to avoid her because of her ability to summon monsters when she sighs. As a child, Hapi's curiosity about the outside world led her to leave her village, despite it being forbidden. Hapi's experiences as the subject of Cornelia's experiments and her confinement to Abyss gave her a cynical outlook regarding justice; however, she earnestly cares about those she can call friends. | |||
Hapi calls other characters by nicknames, as seen in support conversations. Known nicknames include: | |||

Almost immediately after Byleth and Hapi had celebrated their marriage in a lively ceremony, the battle against those who slither in the dark began in earnest. Contrary to expectations, Hapi wholeheartedly charged to the front lines and fought alongside her husband until true peace came to Fódlan. Afterward, the couple vanished without a trace—at least until someone claiming to be a descendant produced a chronicle of their lives. According to that account, the pair had retired to a secluded village at the foot of the Oghma Mountains. There, the author writes, they pledged their undying love for each other underneath a starry sky. | Almost immediately after Byleth and Hapi had celebrated their marriage in a lively ceremony, the battle against those who slither in the dark began in earnest. After the war, Yuri accompanied Hapi to the village where she was born. The surprise nature of the visit, combined with a local custom of massive celebrations for family reunions, made things awkward at first. The party did not get started until nightfall, but Hapi was able to reunite with her parents, and under that starry sky, lasting bonds were forged. In fact, it is said that Yuri, a complete stranger, made such an impression that the welcome party lasted for seven days and nights before he was finally permitted to leave. Years later, they returned for another visit—this time as a couple. The village turned out en masse for the wedding, held under those same stars. | After the war, Yuri accompanied Hapi to the village where she was born. Shortly after the war, Hapi and Balthus disappeared. Their absence from the world stage was not lasting, however, as before long they emerged as the leaders of an elite band of mercenaries. The group traveled all over Fódlan helping those in need, with a noted specialty in handling monsters. It is said that these mercenaries lived raucously, laughing often, and that not a single sigh of discontent was ever heard. “ | Why do I have to go? No matter what we do, we're all just gonna die in the end anyway. | ” | — Hapi |
---|
Hapi (pronounced /ˈhæpi/[key]; Japanese: ハピ Hapi) is a playable character in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, made available via downloadable content. Hapi plays a prominent role in the DLC side story, Cindered Shadows.
Biography
Hapi was born in the village of Saint Timotheos, a village hidden within a forest in the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, and she lived there until she was nine years old. Wanting to see the world outside her village, Hapi ran away, but was quickly kidnapped by Cornelia and was experimented on for eight years; these experiments resulted in monsters being attracted to her whenever she sighs.
Once Hapi was released, she took refuge in Faerghus, but was discovered by the Knights of Seiros and relocated to Abyss; they claimed to have a cure for her unusual condition, but truly locked her away fearing that she would be a danger to people on the surface. Some time later, Aelfric recruited her to become a member of the Ashen Wolves, the unofficial fourth house of the Officers Academy.
After the timeskip, if Hapi was recruited, she returns to Garreg Mach on the day of the millennium festival and accompanies the group throughout the war. If not recruited, Hapi disappears from Abyss, and her whereabouts are unknown.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Role
Hapi is a recruitable unit regardless of which house you pick, and will be available to recruit once you complete Chapter 5 of Cindered Shadows.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
The best magic path for Hapi depends on what you value more from her. As is the case for most magic-oriented units, promotion into Monk then Mage, at which point you get Fiendish Blow, is recommended regardless of the path chosen. If you want the max attack range for Hapi, she should promote into a Valkyrie which has inherent Dark Magic Range +1 and stay in that class for the rest of the game. Afterwards, give Hapi Thyrsus for +2 range and get her to S-rank in Reason for another Dark Magic Range +1 skill. Despite the fact that the Valkyrie only has 6 movement, it is more than sufficient for endgame considering that Hapi will have 6–7 offensive range on all of her spells and will still have Canto. If you want maximum damage from Hapi rather than max range, go for Dark Knight which has inherent Dark Tomefaire and can stack with the additional Dark Tomefaire obtained at S+ in Reason, all while having a respectable 5–6 max range and 7 movement. If you want max spell uses, go for Gremory which will double all of Hapi's spell uses, including Warp and Physic, at the cost of Canto. Hapi has a strength in Flying, and can easily reach the certification requirements for Dark Flier; the class offers high movement and flier mobility, but lacks Dark Tomefaire, a spell use-boosting skill, or magic range buff. Additionally, flying battalions are very limited, especially so considering there is only one flying magic-boosting battalion—Nuvelle Fliers Corps; due to her weakness in Authority, Hapi will struggle to get to the appropriate rank to use the good flying battalions, which are for the most part restricted to B rank or higher.

Known nicknames include:
- Byleth: Chatterbox
- Yuri: Yuri-bird
- Balthus: B
- Constance: Coco
- Linhardt: Linny
- Bernadetta: Bernie-Bee
- Dimitri: Didi
- Ashe: Freckles
- Claude: Claudester
- Ignatz: Iggy
- Catherine: Cathy
- Hubert: The Bert

Endings
Hapi, Beast Master (single ending, Silver Snow, Azure Moon, Verdant Wind)
Where exactly Hapi went after the war is unknown. Some say she returned to her hometown to live a quiet life, while others speculate she assumed a new identity in the underworld beneath Garreg Mach. There is one incident that is a matter of historical record, however. Some years later, when those who slither in the dark emerged to threaten Fódlan once again, they were defeated by a mysterious woman leading a horde of beasts.
Hapi, Beast Master (single ending, Crimosn Flower)
Though Hapi's exact whereabouts after the war for Fódlan are not known, it is widely speculated that she returned to her hometown to live a quiet life. One strange occurrence is a matter of historical record, however. When the Empire began its struggle against those who slither in the dark in earnest, Imperial forces were sometimes aided by a mysterious woman leading a horde of beasts.
Byleth, Wandering Flame/Ruler of Dawn & Hapi, Freed Spirit (Silver Snow, Verdant Wind)
After ascending to the throne as the first leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan, Byleth announced his marriage to Hapi. Her disquieting lineage earned her more than her fair share of detractors, but over time, as the royal couple restored Fódlan together, the people came to appreciate her competence and taciturn wit. Some years later, when those who slither in the dark emerged to threaten Fódlan once again, it is said that Hapi's strength was instrumental in dealing with them.
Byleth, Guardian of Order & Hapi, Freed Spirit (Azure Moon)
After becoming the new Archbishop of the Church of Seiros, Byleth announced his marriage to Hapi.
Byleth, Wings of the Hegemon & Hapi, Freed Spirit (Crimson Flower)
Dimitri, Savior King & Hapi, Freed Spirit
After his coronation, Dimitri assumed the throne of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus. He focused first and foremost on the restoration of the Kingdom but at the same time worked to expose the schemes of Cornelia and of those who conspired to bring about the Tragedy of Duscur. Always by his side was Hapi, who relentlessly pursued those who slither in the dark and, with Dimitri's help, discovered a magic spell to rid herself of her condition. Once all had settled down, the pair was known to have tea together often in the capital. It is said that Dimitri's tendency to discuss politics during tea time frequently moved Hapi to smirk, shake her head, and sigh.
Linhardt, Sleepy Crest Scholar & Hapi, Freed Spirit
After the war, Linhardt abandoned his inherited position and instead journeyed with Hapi to the village both she and Saint Timotheos were from. The villagers initially bristled at the arrival but welcomed the two once they recognized Hapi. Combining what he had uncovered beneath Garreg Mach with notes found in the village said to have been left by Timotheos himself, Linhardt swiftly unraveled the mystery of Hapi's unique power. With little to do once the research was completed, the pair embarked upon a life of leisure together.
Ashe, Arrow of Justice & Hapi, Freed Spirit
After the war, Ashe was formally knighted and appointed the new head of House Gaspard, which had no successors. He soon married Hapi, whose competence lent much reliability to the governance of their territory. The ruling couple developed a frank and earnest relationship with their people, and the territory prospered. They were also blessed with many children, and their home was always so busy and full of merriment that there was never an occasion to sigh. It is said that Hapi took such delight in recounting Ashe's stories to their children that it became hard to believe she had ever despised knights.
Yuri, Underground Lord & Hapi, Freed Spirit
Balthus, King of Grappling & Hapi, Beast Master (Silver Snow, Verdant Wind, Crimson Flower)
Some years later, when those who slither in the dark returned to threaten Fódlan once again, these mercenaries were instrumental in dealing with them.

Constance, Sorcery Incarnate/Scion of Nuvelle & Hapi, Freed Spirit
Once all the fighting was over, Hapi and Constance set out together on a journey across Fódlan. They toured the land as they liked, watching it come together in the aftermath of war. They helped in the rebuilding effort here and there with magic and even the occasional sigh. When their wanderings were done, they returned to Garreg Mach, to which they also lent their restorative talents, both above and below the ground. It is said that they remained lifelong friends, steadfast through thick and thin forever after.
