The Gorgon Egg (Japanese: ゴーゴンの卵, Gorgon Egg) class is a rare monster class that appears in Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. They cannot attack or use any weapons, staying completely immobile. They only appear in Chapter 18 of the game, as well as skirmishes at Neleras Peak, the chapter's location.

Gorgon eggs are completely immobile, but as the name suggests, they hatch and become gorgons, transforming into the gorgon class. They have a set amount of HP, usually 15, 20, or 25, and starting at 5 HP, they gain 5 HP every turn if a character comes near. Once they reach full health, they turn into gorgons. Gorgon eggs give out a large amount of experience points when destroyed. Therefore, it is very advantageous to quickly destroy as many gorgon eggs as possible.

Gorgon eggs do not have any battle animations, and when attacked simply display map animations. It is also impossible for the player to open the stat screen of a Gorgon eggs, so all stats, aside from HP, and their inventory are hidden from the player without the use of hacking or glitches.

Trivia

  • Gorgon eggs are useful with the use of the Enemy Control Glitch, as when an egg hatches all items in their inventory are set to full durability.
  • The programming that hatches gorgon eggs seems to rely on their coordinates on the map. If the enemy control glitch is used to rescue a gorgon egg and place it elsewhere the game freezes when the game tries to add HP to or hatch the moved gorgon egg.
  • Even though Gorgon eggs cannot attack, on the attack preview menu, it is mentioned that they have either Stone or Demon Surge equipped.
  • Similar to other Monsterclasses in The Sacred Stones, the Gorgon Egg has its stronger counterpart(In this case Gorgon) internally set as its promoted class. Unlike other cases though, this class change does occur in gameplay, even if not through an actual promotion.
  • The class is hardcoded to skip the internal experience-calculation if it is defeated in battle. The effect of this is that the experience gained by player units is always the same, regardless of their level or class.
  • Internally, the class is set to use the same generic portrait as the gorgon-class. This cannot be seen in normal gameplay due to their stat menu being inaccessable. It is possible to bypass this restriction through the Enemy Control Glitch, however.
  • This class is the only class in The Sacred Stones to have multiple diffrent spritesheets set to be used in gameplay. This is made possibly by the class occupying multiple internal class-values, with the value used being swapped out as it gets closer to hatching.
