Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Garret is a unit who joins past the halfway point of The Binding Blade. He has very high strength and HP, especially in Hard Mode, but his speed is subpar. Garret is not fast enough to double any enemies except for the slowest ones. This makes it more difficult to make use of his strength. While he does have high HP, his defense and resistance are both mediocre, making him less durable. His speed is also low enough that he may get doubled by faster enemies.
Garret does have positive traits, though. His C-rank in axes is enough to use Killer Axes with no investment. Thanks to his high strength, he can oneshot enemies if he crits. The Berserker class gives him a crit bonus, too. Thanks to that, while wielding a Killer Axe, Garret can kill enemies in one round by critting them. As a Berserker, Garret can also walk on mountains, which increases his avoid. The player can exploit this to improve Garret's defenses and make him better at combat on enemy phase.
Garret suffers from the low accuracy of axes in The Binding Blade. Despite having a solid skill stat, he will still miss quite often. Considering he cannot double most enemies, this impedes his combat performance. Besides, having a C-rank in axes is decent, but not outstanding. For instance, Garret cannot use the Brave Axe at base. It is a shame, because the Brave Axe would circumvent his low speed by allowing him to attack twice. Increasing Garret's weapon rank is also a chore. Weapon EXP gain in The Binding Blade is very slow, and Garret will miss quite often, further slowing it down.
In summary, Garret is good enough at base level to contribute in combat, but he is not excellent. His growths are low, preventing him from gaining many stats as he levels up. He is better in Hard Mode than in Normal Mode, because he enjoys Hard Mode bonuses to all stats. That said, even with these bonuses, he suffers from the same issues that plague him in Normal Mode.
