When first undergoing basic combat training, Forsyth, in his folly, shunned the sword and picked up the lance and thus cursed himself to become an armor knight and to eventually become the worst unit in the game. When recruited in the Deliverance HQ, there is really only one map left for Forsyth to be deployed on. Unfortunately for this Forsyth to be reckoned with, the map proves to be very difficult for him to contribute anything on. Firstly, Soldiers are still limited to four movement at a point where many have already gotten to at least five movement. Moreover, nearly every other class has access to ranged attacks, either through spells or specific equipment, to compensate for low movement while lance-users still have no access to Javelins or Saunion. This means that Silque must warp Forsyth to the frontlines for him to see any combat where he can retaliate; however, when he reaches the frontlines, you will find that the enemy cavaliers will double him and tear through his pitiful HP and defense bases while he deals barely anything in return. While Forsyth is in a class line known for its tankiness, he has yet to promote—and is three levels away from doing so—meaning his tanking ability is far surpassed by essentially any other frontliner with better defense or enough speed to avoid getting doubled. For instance, any Villager turned Mercenary, Alm if trained, and a promoted Lukas all surpass Forsyth in tanking capability, all of who are far more ideal units to use Silque's warp spell on. Essentially, you have a unit that is forced to attack at melee-range yet whose stats are far too horrible to do any noteworthy damage and is almost immediately put in mortal peril after one enemy phase. For this reason, it is hardly optimal, and borders on cruelty, to catapult Forsyth to the frontlines with Silque, meaning that for the entire map, Forsyth will likely be rushing to reach the action only to arrive once the fight is practically over; consequently, this also means that he has likely made little to no progress on the three levels he needs to promote.

Unfortunately for this Forsyth to be reckoned with, the map proves to be very difficult for him to contribute anything on. Firstly, Soldiers are still limited to four movement at a point where many have already gotten to at least five movement, and Forsyth is generally outclassed by Lukas, as he joins with bases comparable to him, except that Lukas joins at the start of the game, and by that point, he likely already reached his promotion threshold, which is at level 7. Moreover, nearly every other class has access to ranged attacks, either through spells or specific equipment, to compensate for low movement while lance-users still have no access to Javelins or Saunion. This means that Silque must Warp Forsyth to the frontlines for him to see any combat where he can retaliate; however, when he reaches the frontlines, you will find that the enemy cavaliers will double him and deal a noticeable amount of damage with his high HP not fully compensating for his subpar defense base for a Knight while he deals barely anything in return. While Forsyth is in a class line known for its tankiness, he has yet to promote—and is three levels away from doing so—meaning his tanking ability is far surpassed by essentially any other frontliner with better defense or enough speed to avoid getting doubled. Once Act III begins, the maps become even more ill-suited to train Forsyth on, much less use any Soldier/Armored Knight on. Post-Act I maps become larger with enemies far more spread out and filled with more magic-users who will often be able to kill him in one-round. Deploying Forsyth on these maps will prove pointless once again due to his poor combat performance, lackluster defenses, and inability to reach the frontlines without help from Silque. Even maps that have choke points are unideal for Forsyth as he is simply worse than Lukas, any Myrmidon with a shield, Alm, and even Clive when it comes to tanking. Moreover, maps that are less empty or smaller are often plagued by Witches, enemy units that can warp themselves anywhere on the map and will target units isolated from the rest of the army. Their favored targets are Armor Knights as they fall behind due to low movement and take massive damage due to their low speed. If you deploy Forsyth on a map with Witches, he is liable to get one-rounded by them since he will likely be underleveled and even if trained will more than likely still get doubled. These factors combined mean that there is not a single map where Forsyth can be deployed and provide some kind of benefit that a different unit cannot perform more competently.

Many would counter these points by arguing you can train Forsyth to promotion in the Deliverance HQ; however, Lukas has been in your party the whole game, has likely promoted by the time you reach Forsyth and you do not need more than one Knight for the finale of Act I nor at any point beyond Act I.

At the very least, Forsyth does have a silver lining in his offensive growths; 45% Attack and 30% Speed mean he will hit fairly hard and, with heavy favoritism, be unusually resistant to being doubled for a Baron. Of course, you could also spend that effort on making other units with more potential even stronger - the decision is yours.

Overall, Forsyth is a man whose ambition far outstrips the cold, harsh reality of his performance in combat. He performs awfully against any enemy that a melee-locked unit would want to fight and is an active liability when deployed on later maps. Forsyth's best utility lies in seeking refuge on the bench and staying alive so that Python gets a good ending.

Forsyth had very little characterization in Gaiden, owing to his minimal dialogue. He was given an expanded personality in Shadows of Valentia, where he has a straightforward attitude, being very passionate about fighting in the Deliverance. As a result, he is unable to understand apathy in other people, especially his childhood friend Python.

I've made a name for myself as a warrior. May as well take that to its logical conclusion and do some more warring.
— Forsyth, to Python.

Forsyth (Japanese: フォルス Fols) is a soldier in Fire Emblem Gaiden and its remake Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. He is a member of the Deliverance.

Fire Emblem Gaiden

Role

Forsyth is the second and last soldier recruited on Alm's route.

He is a member of the Zofian Deliverance, and tells Alm of Desaix's plans to join forces with Rigel and the rumors of Mila's disappearance.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Forsyth joins late in Act 1 as a level 4 Soldier. While he has better growths than Lukas in areas like attack and speed, the main problem with him is that he's quite hard to train compared to other units. When recruited in the Deliverance HQ, there is really only one map left for Forsyth to be deployed on. Unfortunately for this Forsyth to be reckoned with, the map proves to be very difficult for him to contribute anything on.

Once Act III begins, the maps become even more ill-suited to train Forsyth on, much less use any Soldier or Knight on.

Personality

Forsyth had very little characterization in Gaiden, owing to his minimal dialogue. He was given an expanded personality in Shadows of Valentia, where he has a straightforward attitude, being very passionate about fighting in the Deliverance. As a result, he is unable to understand apathy in other people, especially his childhood friend Python.

If Python and Clive survived
Forsyth joined the One Kingdom's knights after the war, working hard to bring order back to the land. Time took off some of his more caustic edges, and he served many years alongside Clive as a poised and thoughtful lieutenant.

If Clive died
Forsyth joined the One Kingdom's knights after the war, and he lived his life for them as the late Clive would have wanted. Time took off some of Forsyth's more caustic edges, giving him a poised and thoughtful demeanor that reminded many of his old commander.

If Python died
Forsyth joined the One Kingdom's knights after the war. The loss of Python left him empty, which is perhaps why he volunteered to go to the borderlands to bring the king's peace. He met and wed a woman from the area, and the two never returned to the capital.
