This will be a Community Page... We need to pretty it up.

Skype Group

If you want up-to-date discussions about FE Wiki, add zt-yusei (Yusei's skype handle), malake256, or tacopill and tell them you are from FE Wiki.. Add them and they will add you to the group.

As time goes on, there are more active people in the Skype group. It may be more useful to ask hyperllamalord, brandedone13 or seritinajii if you'd like to join. We'd love to have you chat with us. :) BrandedOne 07:03, 20 July 2011 (EDT)

Sacred Stones

Any Sacred Stones players and fans out there? (Is this how this'll work?) Seritinajii 20:24, 18 September 2010 (MDT)

Well unless we want to make a forum for this, this mostly will be something like finding Wiki news and such. - Yusei  (My Talk Page) (My Contributions) 09:13, 19 September 2010 (MDT)

I vote we make a forum. Ostia is a central part of the Lycian League and hence a lot of social activity. Plus, I'd rather not spend a ton of time discussing this wiki besides on this wiki or via email. And as I noted on my chat page I'm a huge Sacred Stones player as well as Blazing Sword Strategex 16:25, 6 October 2010 (MDT)

I agree with that statement. Being wiki's discussion pages are about the wiki itself, while community pages are about content related discussions, articles, periodicals, etc. and not idle chit-chat. Tacopill 09:10, 7 October 2010 (MDT).
If you want to have forums... I could upload em, but I don't have my computer. Using my boyfriend's computer right now. - Yusei  (My Talk Page) (My Contributions) 16:43, 13 October 2010 (MDT)

Forums

Should we get our own forums for the FEW? We can also discuss about FE on the forums. Just if we approve it I'll ask a friend to upload it for me since I don't have a computer. - Yusei  (My Talk Page) (My Contributions) 16:40, 16 October 2010 (MDT)

A couple of objective suggestions

  • First off, there's a typo in your interwiki data for SmashWiki -- two slashes.
  • Your sitenotice was causing the text to be bumped around in weird ways for me as a logged-out user. Admittedly my computer and monitor are running behind standard right now, but I just thought you should be aware.
  • One of your anti-spambot questions has a rather obvious error -- there are two Smash games with Marth, yes, but "both" is incorrect as there are three Smash games, one of which contains no Fire Emblem material whatsoever.
  • I mentioned this to the staff on NIWA, but I recommend adapting content from SmashWiki's help section; especially important are things like a privacy policy and a general disclaimer, as these are linked to on the bottom of every page.

Beyond that, I guess all I have to say is good luck on your NIWA application! Miles (talk) 16:51, 25 March 2011 (MDT)

Thanks for the input, Miles! We've taken care of the interwiki typo and the inaccuracy of the anti-spambot question. As far as the sitenotice goes, I logged out to investigate, and everything seemed normal to me :/ I've put the help section, disclaimer and privacy policy on my to do list, so those will get done as soon as possible. Thanks again for your help, and for the good luck wishes! BrandedOne 20:10, 26 March 2011 (MDT)
Regarding the sitenotice glitches when logged out: 1 2. Admittedly I'm still running IE7, but it's still worth pointing out. Miles (talk) 09:21, 27 March 2011 (MDT)
We cannot fix such an issue with IE7. The skin is designed off of Vector, while the other is based on Monobook. So in order to fix that, we'd need to copy or alter coding from monobook into Vector. I'm sorry, but the best to do is to upgrade your browser to a compatible one such as Google Chrome, Opera, etc. -- Eliwood  (My Talk Page) (My Contributions) 10:32, 27 March 2011 (MDT)

Recent server issues

As you may have been seen, we have had recently been dealing with new server issues due to recent websites that have transferred on to it. Rest assured that I am looking into the cause and will have it fixed as soon as possible. Tacopill 08:16, 8 November 2011 (EST).

It's good to know the reason, and reassuring that you are working on this. Thank you very much. ~ Aria der Donau 10:55, 8 November 2011 (EST)

Viewing large categories

Since I wasn't sure where to post this, I figured I would ask it here. Whenever I try to view large categories such as Category:The Sacred Stones portraits with more than 200 images, it doesn't let me view any files beyond the 200 mark. When I try to click on the link for (Next 200), it just takes me back to the first 200 images in the category. I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing similar issues like this with large categories? - Natasha 20:46, 21 January 2012 (EST)

Absolutely, I've seen that problem before, and it's rather annoying. I believe as part of the new URL when you click "Next 200", there is a small section that is "filefrom". I believe if you change that to just, "from", it may show you the next images in the category. I may be wrong about that, but I think that was the solution someone gave me. BrandedOne 20:49, 21 January 2012 (EST)
That is correct. Dillion needs to fix that... Super (duh...)AlpacaFile:Doggie Mask.png 20:53, 21 January 2012 (EST)
Thanks, that seems to make it work. I'll just have to remember to do it each time I click the link for ("Next 200"). I hope it is something that can be fixed in the near future. - Natasha 20:57, 21 January 2012 (EST)

Magazine Scans

I think we should start uploading magazine scans, if at all possible. Could be useful. Just a thought. -- Eliwood  (My Talk Page) (My Contributions) 11:01, 10 February 2012 (EST)

It's a good idea, Yusei. If you have, please upload them and I'll sort them in the corresponding categories. ~ Aria der Donau 21:02, 14 February 2012 (EST)

Inability to reupload files

I have no idea what happened here, but I'd like to inquire as to the removal/disappearance of the "Upload a new version of the file" option for files, particularly images. Considering there are a large number of files "ghosted" by that server transfer (eg File:FE776 Cyas.png) - especially FE5 artwork - which require reuploading, this is problematic. Even if that weren't the case it's an unfortunate thing to not have around, for general purposes of cleaning up image crops or updating slightly erroneous sprites. The ability to move pages also disappeared around the same time, but that's somewhat less of an issue. --PerplexingArticulator (talk) 00:42, 19 June 2012 (EDT)

While I'm not sure of the exact reason for these problems, our tech supports are looking into this and trying to find a solution. And about FE5 artwork, the user who cropped them may have backups; I'll talk with them and ask if they can reupload those images once the issue has been resolved. ~ Aria der Donau (talk) 02:02, 19 June 2012 (EDT)

Word blacklist

Okay seriously, we literally can't create anything with the word "skill" (let alone the still-absent skills page) in it anymore because "kill" is blacklisted. Similarly, File:Is 3ds divine falchion.png can't have its proper name, Exalted Falchion, because "sex" is blacklisted (the file name would be "Is 3ds exalted falcion"). Considering that both words pop up with some frequency in FE games, and that the former is literally a core part of the point of the games, this is just plain silly. --some idiot (talk) 09:26, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Extension suggestion

A few days ago, I was working on the Avatar's article, and had an idea. On some other wikis, such as F-Zero Wiki and WiKirby, we have the MyVariables extension, which adds magic words such as, for example, {{CURRENTUSER}}, which outputs the name of the user viewing the page in the article. Since the Avatar is supposed to be the player's representative in the game world, I figured we could use those magic words to personalise the articles accordingly (e.g. "David has lost his memory" instead of "Avatar has lost his/her memory"). Here it is in action on WiKirby; if you're logged in, and have specified your real name and gender, the template and documentation change to reflect them; otherwise, you get "the player". What do you think? --Moydow (Support) 19:46, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

I also want to suggest adding something to MediaWiki:Edittools, which allows you to add several commonly-used but difficult-to-type symbols to a box under the edit screen, for easier editing. Here's F-Zero Wiki's edit tools, as an example; feel free to borrow ours, if you like. --Moydow (Support) 02:30, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

I can add the extension if more people are supporting it. --Sove (talk) 10:22, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

On game names

just out of curiosity: thoughts on the possiblity of renaming the game pages to give them the English names prescribed to each by Awakening? admittedly only three "need" to be changed (Monshou no Nazo -> Mystery of the Emblem, Genealogy of the Holy War -> Genealogy of the Holy War, The Binding Blade -> Binding Blade; Thracia 776 and Gaiden are still referred to as such). i can see valid reasons for both doing it or not doing it; thought i'd raise it here as a matter of curiosity. similarly, i'd also recomment renaming the FE7 page to just "Fire Emblem (game)"; i get why it's got a different name and i'd recommend leaving it as "Blazing Sword" in listings on other pages for the sake of disambiguation, but honestly it seems a little silly to not refer to the main page on the game by its "actual" english name (not to mention, if anything the subtitle should be "Blazing Blade" since that's how the namesake sword is referred to in FE7, popularised terms be damned...) not really expecting either change to go through, but i thought i'd raise it anyway out of curiosity --some idiot (talk) 04:31, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

I agree with this, I think we should use the official English names where they exist. I can see why people call FE7 "Blazing Sword", but it's not the actual name of the game; the page title, at the very least, should use the correct name. --Moydow (Support) 06:33, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
moving the FE6 page and its related pages/categories now; this ought to be interesting... --some idiot (talk) 06:04, 30 August 2013 (UTC)
If you need a lot of edits like this done, just contact me or one of the administrators, and we can run a text replace on them, it'll change them all pretty quick. Only thing it can't do is rename categories, which need to be done manually via copy-and-paste. --Moydow (Support) 21:54, 30 August 2013 (UTC)

Map Object Pages

Should we create separate pages for the types of Terrain and objects found on a map? For example: a "Mountain" or "Mountain (terrain)" page. Casundrud (talk) 04:17, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

I kinda disagree, since I think a "terrain" page would probably be able to cover all of it without needing to create lots of pages. For a reader looking for info, it'd be easier to have all of the terrain data in one place. Sorry for the late response!! Seritinajii (talk) 05:59, 3 September 2013 (UTC)
That makes sense. What kinds of templates would I need to go about creating that page? Casundrud (talk) 23:02, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

Skill page names

I've noticed a little bit of inconsistency among naming skill pages - specifically, when they have different names in different games, some pages have names from earlier games; other pages have names from the latest. For example, Pavise (FE13) rather than Great Shield (FE8), but Silencer (skill) (FE7-8) rather than Silencer (FE13). Personally I think we should go with the latest - is it alright that we go through with that? Consistency is important!! Seritinajii (talk) 06:06, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

for what it's worth literally the only reason Silencer still isn't Lethality is because i haven't gotten around to it yet; i've been planning to make the switch for a fair while but keep getting distracted. i think i'm off to do that now. in general, yes, i definitely agree with going with the latest name given for something --some idiot (talk) 04:25, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
I've ran into a little snag concerning a related issue. Simply moving what's currently titled Barrier to Ward, as the latter's the most recent official name, isn't going to work--the title Ward redirects to Wade (who uses "Ward" as a fan name). What should the approach be? Let somebody with powers simply move Barrier to Ward and go the hatnote route in reflecting Wade's fanname, or should we go the disambiguation route with this one? --Shiningpikablu252 (talk) 05:34, 6 September 2013 (UTC)

Awakening child character stat pages

I think we need to look for a new solution on how to handle these pages. I've been doing work on Lucina/Stats recently, having finished up work on the fifth of her six possible mothers...and tripped Category:Pages where template include size is exceeded in the process. If this trips up on a child whose parental options are quite limited, there's no way we could feasibly handle something like Owain/Stats on a single page without having to work out a new solution to this problem...--Shiningpikablu252 (talk) 22:00, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

I doubled the limit but it shouldn't become a long term solution, those pages put extra strain on the parser. --Sove (talk) 06:41, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

New articles

How do I create a new article? I'd like to add more articles about Awakening, as there appears to be little effort put in for that game. InMooseWeTrust (talk) 10:58, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

You need to become an autoconfirmed user first; you need to have been registered for a certain length of time, and have made a certain number of edits, before you can do things like create pages. --Moydow (Support) 14:00, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
the time is 4 days and 10 edits, to prevent spambots from wreaking havoc on this lovely place. thanks for your patience!! Seritinajii (talk) 22:35, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

Blacklist issue...again...

A wide update of name updating concerning Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade material happened yesterday, and with it, came a sizable number of page moves involving chapter articles. However, a blacklist issue has reared its ugly head that, if left unchecked, could trick people into thinking we deleted our article for chapter 10 on the western route; the article is still at the outdated title of Caught in the Middle. The blacklist issue in question prevents the article from being moved to the updated title Amidst a Struggle; to be specific, a string in the word "struggle" is what's tripping the blacklist (I really don't see the reason why the string in question is there; Wiktionary lists no offensive meaning). Is it possible to get the article in question to its correct updated title? Thanks. --Shiningpikablu252 (talk) 02:47, 23 March 2014 (UTC)

"Ugg" as in "ugg boot" is there for anti-spam reasons, though the regex also blocked words containing that string as well. I've updated the blacklist page to reflect this, and also moved those pages to their correct titles. --Moydow (Support) 16:43, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

Anime image naming

Right now I'm trying to somewhat clean up image names, and I've ran into a bit of a conundrum concerning anime images. There appear to be two different standards for naming anime images, and I'm unsure how to unify them. Upload dates suggest they should be unified toward that of File:Anime Gharnef.png, but there's also suggestions that a unification toward that of File:Caeda (anime).png could also be the right call. I'm really unsure how I should approach this...--Shiningpikablu252 (talk) 17:18, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

Awakening portraits

"Dekodomo", a person on Tumblr, has started a project in which they're working on using Miiverse screenshots to extract clean, high-quality copies of Awakening's portrait sprites; they've done an excellent job keeping them in good quality. They've invited people to "use [them for whatever"], and of course they could be very useful here, considering proper sprite rips from the game's data itself are very likely a long way away if they ever happen at all. I thought I'd raise the possibility of someone asking their permission to use their portrait work on Fire Emblem Wiki, with complete and proper attribution of course, and see if anyone would be okay with this idea/up to making the request. Thoughts? --some idiot (talk) 01:45, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

Sounds like a good idea...--Shiningpikablu252 (talk) 02:35, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

Awakening small portraits

Any reason why they're being cropped? Is this just so they're the same size as in the game's stat screens? I personally think we should upload them in their full size (about 120x120), and resize them if needed. --Moydow (Support) 01:00, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

Advertisements on the site

In order to support the upkeep of the server, we're asking the sites we're hosting if they would be willing to host advertisements. We're looking to have two to three ads on each site - one at the top and bottom of the content area, and possibly one in the sidebar, but this can be negotiated. All money raised will go towards the cost of the server/hosting and domain names. This won't affect the day-to-day running of the site in any way. Please discuss this, and let me know if you're okay with ads being placed on the site. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me. Thank you, Moydow (Support) 20:52, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

I think advertisements would be okay. Thesquidsisters (talk) 17:33, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
Just bringing this up again. We'll be implementing these within the next few weeks, unless anyone has any compelling reasons not to. -Moydow (Support) 15:49, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

Update 1.26

1.26 was released almost a month ago and we are still on 1.25.3. I have done some testing with a copy of the site's setup and an old database and it seems to be working fine, meaning there should be no critical errors after the update process. The only issue I have seen is that the search function is a bit broken. It works, but the layout is a bit of a mess, but this problem seems to occur on other 1.26 wikis as well. I assume it will be fixed in 1.26.1

In addition to the update, I have plans to implement a new CAPTCHA, one that should be less annoying to real humans but still too hard for most bots. This CAPTCHA is the new version of reCAPTCHA where a user simply has to click a single checkbox, the software analyzes browsing habits on registraton pages etc. and based on that, figures whether the action was performed by a human or not. If the check fails, an image challenge is presented which works similarly to the now defunt Asirra. This requires 1.26.

No date has been set yet, so there is time to decide should the update be postponed till 1.26.1, in hopes of it fixing the search page layout, or is the issue insignificant enough to not warrant a delay.

As for what the broken layout looks like, clicky here

--Sove (talk) 00:22, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

I don't think the search looks too bad, but what happens if you have more results than that, do they overlap or anything? If it looks okay with more results as well I think updating would be fine. L95 (talk) 00:55, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

No overlapping, it just looks weird. --Sove (talk) 00:59, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

A little extra idea I had a moment ago when I saw those red exclamation marks in RC. I was thinking of overhauling the patrol system by allowing autoconfirmed users to patrol edits and consider them autopatrolled. That way, only IPs and new accounts fall under the scope of the patrol system, such edits are marked with a red exclamation mark, drawing extra attention. This makes it easier to distinguish edits made by users who are more likely to edit in bad faith.

In addition, the system adds a new group, called "patrolled", which is intended to be used for those autoconfirmed users who cannot be trusted to have their edits automatically patrolled. The group "autopatrolled" will be removed.

The configuration changes necessary for this are pending for 1.26. In case of silence or opposition from the community, these changes will not applied with 1.26 and are put on hold. This kind of a change is not something I wish to implement without a clear community approval. This does not affect other features to come with 1.26 rollout. --Sove (talk) 23:36, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

This could also be implemented as a separate implicit group that has higher requirements than autoconfirmed, like 500 edits and 90 days. --Sove (talk) 00:05, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

.....tooooo.... tell the truth I have no idea what you're talking about. (I'm not seeing any red exclamation points in Recent Changes). Unless this is something I can't see because of whatever. L95 (talk) 01:13, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

Fates Japanese names

If anyone needs a resource to add Japanese names to fates pages here's a list of pages. Noooot actually sure where to put these but I wanted them to be useful somewhere. But, uh, feel free to move this list somewhere proper if this isn't a good spot.
Katanas & Swords
Naginatas & Lances
Clubs & Axes
Shuriken & Kunai
Yumi & Bows
Hoshidan magic & tomes
Batons & Staves
Dragonstones, Beast Stones, Breath, etc.

Batch move request

Would it be possible for somebody with the correct rights to run some sort of batch rename operation for the FE13 map animations and item sprite files, to change the "3ds" part of the name to "3ds01"? FE14's map graphics are completely new even for classes returning from FE13, and the same seems to go for items considering the generic icon thing, so it's something that could do with doing. The only issue is that icons for the skills new to FE14 are also currently under the 3ds prefix, but they can be manually moved after the fact. --PA (talk) 02:52, 19 January 2016 (UTC)

I assume they can all be found from this category? This would need a bot so it can be done automatically and we do not have one. Another solution is to make a list of the files in "existing name 1|new name 1" format, one line for every file and then have one of us run the moveBatch script. This is a very time consuming process, though. --Sove (talk) 23:37, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
This category as well. If you think it's worth going ahead with the move, I'd be happy to put together a file list if that's the time-consuming part. I'm pretty good at doing menial rote tasks like that, so perhaps it's better if I put up with it instead of somebody else. --PA (talk) 11:01, 23 January 2016 (UTC)

Move error/request

Asyura and its subpage needs to be moved to "Shura" per this localization revelation, but this redirect page for this class is in the way and won't let me complete the move. Could somebody with higher rights finish off the move? --PA (talk) 02:54, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

Done --Sove (talk) 06:25, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. We've got another of the same problem: War Priestess should apparently be moved over the Priestess redirect. --PA (talk) 08:37, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
Done. --Moydow (Support) 10:54, 12 February 2016 (UTC)

Move error/request 2

I goofed when I was moving skill pages to the English names based on this: http://www.siliconera.com/2016/02/12/preparing-battles-nohr-fire-emblem-fates-conquest/. I mixed up Midori's Lucky Charm skill with "Good Fortune", which is supposed to be Stubbornness' English name. Can someone delete the Good Fortune redirect page, as well as the Good Fortune image redirect to fix this? ChaosGallade (talk) 20:00, 16 February 2016 (UTC)

Calling vote for new admin

Hello everyone. I am the founder of Fire Emblem Wiki who stepped down a few years back due to having too many projects at once. I would like to return to help the wiki a bit with issues such as move requests, locking and unlocking pages, etc. I was asked to ask the community first to see if they wanted a new admin, so if you want to have me help out around here as a part-time admin, please vote "Aye" or "Nay" in response to this. -- Izagar  (My Talk Page) (My Contributions) 18:03, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
