Fire Emblem Cipher/Flame, Steel, Thought, and Grief

Flame, Steel, Thought, and Grief (Japanese: 炎と鋼と想と哀と Flame, Steel, Thought, and Grief) is the thirteenth booster series released for Fire Emblem Cipher. It primarily features characters from the Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light and its remake, and Fire Emblem Heroes. This series was released aside one associated starter deck, The Blazing Blade Chapter on June 28, 2018 in Japan. The retail price for individual booster packs is ¥350 plus tax.

In conjunction with the release of this booster series, Cipher began grouping booster series and their related starter decks and promotional series into "seasons" based around rotating the pool of cards allowed in competitive play; as such, this booster series and its associated starter deck and promo series are the first to include a season denotation printed on the cards, in this case a "4th" near the card number. As a fourth-season booster series, it is expected to remain in competitive play until mid-2022.

As with all of Cipher, the cards featured here has been printed only in Japanese and have only been released in Japan.

Overview

This booster series features a somewhat odd division. The first half, consisting of cards 1-50, focuses primarily on characters from Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade and denoted with , although it does include one character who does not physically appear in Fire Emblem but is playable in The Binding Blade; the next roughly two-thirds, consisting of cards 51-83, primarily focuses on characters from Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light and its remake, Shadow Dragon, and denoted with ; the final roughly third, consisting of cards 84-100, primarily focuses on characters from Heroes with a focus on the early part of Book II of its storyline, and are colorless and thus lack a denotation symbol.

Trivia

• Unlike previous booster series, prerelease coverage for this series (and presumably for future series onward) had the card images appear without their card numbers, and did not reveal any card images with their numbers until the set list was made available online the day before its release; this made it difficult for fansites to compile comprehensive coverage as the prerelease card reveals unfolded.
