One year after the War of Shadows between the Archanean League, led by Prince Marth of Altea, and the Dolhr Empire led by the Shadow Dragon Medeus, an imperial edict from Hardin, recently crowned Emperor of Archanea, arrives at Altea Castle, ordering Marth to lead his army to Grust to subdue a rebellion occuring there. Although Marth has his doubts about this order, he is forced to comply with the orders of his suzerain nation, and leaves for Grust.
Gameplay
New Mystery of the Emblem marks the first appearance of "Casual Mode", a gameplay mode in which units who are defeated in battle are not actually killed, but simply retreat from battle to recover in time for the next chapter.
