Escape! (Japanese: 脱出行 Escape) is the first chapter of Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. In this chapter, Eirika and Seth continue on their travel to Frelia, and meet up with Franz and Gilliam on the way. They then rescue Princess Tana from the castle where she is being held hostage.

Plot

Main article: Escape!/Script

The chapter begins with the appearance of the Grado force led by Breguet. A Frelian scout reports the news to Princess Tana, suggesting she return to Castle Frelia for safety. Tana refuses to leave without knowing what's happened to her friend Eirika. She insists on staying until Eirika and her companions are found, and requests that her father send more troops.

Outside the castle, Breguet's scouts tell him that the enemy is preparing to defend their position, and ask for his orders. Breguet smirks and tells his soldiers to stand back and watch as he takes care of the enemy himself. He then engages battle with the mercenary guarding the castle, scores a critical and disposes of him easily. The Grado soldiers then take their places on the map.

Inside the castle, Tana commands Breguet to retreat, threatening to fight him herself. Breguet then asks what authority that command comes from. Tana introduces herself as the Princess of Frelia and orders him out, telling him that if she is harmed, her father and brother will see to his end. Breguet takes the opportunity to seize Tana and lock her up as a hostage.

Eirika and Seth arrive at the battlefield, alarmed by the presence of the Grado army. Seth suggests they bypass Mulan and head straight to Castle Frelia, but Eirika won't hear of it. Still in shock from the decimation she saw in Renais, Eirika is determined not to let the same thing happen to Frelia. Seth aquiesces, requesting that the princess keep herself safe, for the good of the people of Renais.

At the end of the first Player Phase, Breguet recognizes Eirika, and tells his soldiers to bring him the princess.

At the end of the first Enemy Phase, Franz and Gilliam appear. Gilliam tells Franz that Princess Tana should be inside the castle, but they too discover the presence of the Grado army. The two knights ride on, first to rescue Tana from her trapped state, then to assist Eirika.

During the battle, Franz can speak with both Seth and Eirika. Seth tells Franz that it is the responsibility of the two of them to watch over Princess Eirika's safety. Franz tells Eirika that Tana is being held hostage in the castle, and Eirika hurries to her friend's safety.

After Breguet is defeated and the Eirika seizes the castle, first Gilliam finds Tana perfectly unharmed, then Eirika and Tana have a joyful reunion. Tana wonders about Ephraim's safety, and Eirika says she doesn't know of her brother's whereabouts. Tana then takes the group to Castle Frelia, to see if King Hayden knows anything of Ephraim.

At Castle Frelia, Hayden first rejoices for Tana's safety, then tells her never to leave without his permission. Eirika greets King Hayden, telling of her escape from Renais. Hayden is pleased with Eirika's safety, but reports that King Fado did not survive the fall of Renais. Hayden assures Eirika that Frelia will punish Grado for its actions, then requests that Eirika stay in Frelia and rest. Seth asks if Hayden knows anything of Prince Ephraim and his disappearance. Hayden says his scouts have reports of Ephraim besting the Grado army at every encounter, and that he now fights in Renvall. Upon hearing this news, Eirika denies Hayden's offer to stay in Frelia and decides to ride to her brother's side with reinforcements. Hayden argues with her for a while, saying that the entirety of Frelia's forces rides with Innes toward the Grado captial, and that he could not spare any forces for her. Eirika presses on, and convinces Hayden to let her go. Hayden then supplies Eirika with three of his most trusted vassals, Vanessa, Moulder, and Gilliam. He also lends her a supply convoy to carry weapons for the rest of the journey. Eirika thanks him, but he tells her to save it until she returns with Ephriam.

In a hallway, Tana urges Eirika not to go and put herself in danger. Eirika denies this, saying that she has to go rescue her brother. Tana then spouts of a load of unanswerable questions, most notably wondering what Grado's intentions were when they invaded Renais. Eirika is aware of the reality that they are now at war, whatever the reason, and her the only way she can find the answer is by finding her brother.

Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

This chapter is very straight forward—move towards the throne and kill all units in your way. It'll be easier to train Eirika if you pit her versus the Fighters due to the weapon triangle. Remember that Franz and Gilliam will join you on turn 2 and appear towards the north eastern ridge. Also, note that after you cross the middle of the map, three reinforcement units will appear from the bottom right corner. The boss should fall fairly quickly if you use Eirika's Rapier as it does bonus damage versus armored units. Afterwards, seize the throne.
