Battle save (Japanese: セーブポイント Save point) is a mechanic that allow to make a save during the current chapter in contrast to a traditional save made at the end of a chapter or during preparations.
The feature began in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, where the player is allowed to make a Battle Save at the start of every new turn. This is a helpful mechanic due to chapters in the game being rather long. Following Genealogy of the Holy War, the Battle Save feature did not return until the Western versions of Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. Since then, it has appeared in every main Fire Emblem games.

Genealogy of the Holy War
In Genealogy of the Holy War, the player can enable battle save through the option menu. Up to 4 slots are available to use. Battle saves can be made at the start of each turn from the menu, but the option disappears as soon as any unit has ended their turn. When loading a battle save through the main menu, the turn on which each save was made appears as a number next to the name of the chapter in which the save occurred.
When the battle save option is enabled, each turn begins with a prompt to save over the selected slot. However, saves can be made at the start of every turn to a slot of the player's choice, regardless of whether or not the option has been enabled.
