Barbarian (ばんぞく, Banzoku, meaning "savage tribe", or バーバリアン, Baabarian) is a class of enemy axe users in the Fire Emblem series. They first appeared in the third game of the series, Monshou no Nazo, made a second appearance in the next game, Seisen no Keifu, then disappeared until returning in the remake of the third game, Shin Monshou no Nazo. They will appear in the upcoming Fire Emblem Awakening, as playable units.

Barbarians are similar to Brigands and Pirates in that they are generally villainous axe-wielding enemies. They tend to be stronger than Brigands and Pirates, though they often share stats and growth rates. They attack directly for the most part (though they can use hand axes), and tend to have high strength. They usually have low defense, and are especially weak to magic.

The boss of the fifth prologue chapter of Shin Monshou no Nazo is a barbarian. Otherwise, in Monshou no Nazo and Shin Monshou no Nazo, they usually appear as savages living in mountain tribes associated with dragons. Barbarians in Seisen no Keifu are normal axe-using enemies.

In Awakening, barbarians can promote to the Warrior or Berserker class. The method is currently unknown.
