“ | Aum works but once, but I will use it to revive a lost comrade. | ” | — Elice |
---|
Aum (Japanese: オム Om) is a powerful staff of Archanea, capable of restoring life to deceased warriors. It is usable only by women of royal lineage. Rumored by the world at large to have been lost as of the era of the War of Shadows, it had in fact located by Gharnef in the Resurrectory, a temple in Dolhr, and it was to the end of using it that Gharnef held hostage Princess Elice of Altea; she revealed this information to her brother Marth when he came to Thabes to free her. In the intervening years following the War, the staff ended up in the Dragon's Altar.
Elice is the sole wielder of Aum in Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, and Elice and Yuliya are the sole wielders in Mystery of the Emblem. Afterward, this was expanded to include all women of royal blood;[1] In Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of the Emblem, Elice, Maria, and Yuliya are capable of using Aum, and Caeda, Minerva, and Sheena can use it after reclassing to a staff-wielding class.

Trivia
- In Shadow Dragon, Aum cannot resurrect the character selected as a decoy in the Prologue; this may have been foreshadowing to how, in New Mystery of the Emblem, Frey survived acting as the decoy and returned to serving Altea.
- In Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of the Emblem, units revived by the Aum staff will be revived "untapped"—meaning they can perform an action the turn they are revived—even if they were killed that turn, making it possible for that unit to take two actions in one turn.

Notes
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 As the chest is isolated from the rest of the map and there is an enemy on the chest (a Dark Mage in Mystery of the Emblem, a Sorcerer in New Mystery of the Emblem), Warp is required to obtain Aum. Because Warp is not obtainable in the Lunatic difficulty of New Mystery of the Emblem, Aum cannot be obtained in it either.
