She was raised as Travant's daughter along with Arion, Travant's actual son and her foster brother, and as she grew she served as a princess of Thracia and a Wyvern Knight in Thracia's army during the era of Grannvale occupation of the Munster District to the north. | ||

As Leif's fledgling army fled through the mountains to Hannibal's mansion to rendezvous with the Leonster knights under his protection, Altena and Travant were touring the region, and were informed by Merlock that the army was in fact a bandit group. There, she had a discussion with Travant about his dreams for Thracia and the Munster District, and his resignation to the inevitable damnation upon him for his methods, before leaving, entrusting the situation to Marlock. | |||
Following the fall of Bloom and the Grannvale occupation of the Munster District, Travant dispatched Altena and Coulter to assault Munster, now occupied by [[ | |||
Later, Altena travelled to Tarrah during the Friege siege against it and took up residence in a house on its outskirts. When Deen came to visit, by Arion's request she gave him the Dragon Lance, and reminded and encourage him of his role in protecting Linoan in lieu of Arion himself. | |||
Following the fall of Bloom and the Grannvale occupation of the Munster District, Travant dispatched Altena and Coulter to assault Munster, now occupied by Ced. Altena's misgivings about attacking innocents caused her to refuse to continue the attack; Coulter refused to listen and insisted on the doomed raid, losing to Seliph's army. During this encounter and the subsequent loss of Meath Castle, Altena merely observed from the mountains; Finn, a former Leonster Knight, noticed her presence and identified her as Quan's lost daughter. | |||
After the loss of Meath, Altena reported back to a displeased Travant, who ordered her to sortie again to reclaim Meath; this time, she complied in full, given the lack of risk to innocents. During this fight, she was stopped by Leif, who revealed her true identity to her; initially in disbelief, she saw the truth from looking at her brother, and fled the battlefield to confront Travant about his hand in the deaths of her true parents. In response, Arion subdued her, and she recovered after Travant died on the battlefield. Acting under the encouragement of Arion, Altena reluctantly left Thracia to ally with Leif and Seliph. | After the loss of Meath, Altena reported back to a displeased Travant, who ordered her to sortie again to reclaim Meath; this time, she complied in full, given the lack of risk to innocents. ===Role=== | |||
Altena is a playable character during the second generation. In Chapter 8, Altena appears as an enemy unit once Connacht has been seized. As the area near her is inacessible, it is impossible to fight her in this chapter. In Chapter 9, Altena appears an enemy unit affiliated with Thracia at the start of the chapter. If Finn is still alive and Leif talks to her, she will retreat for the map, causing Travant to appear. Once Travant is defeated, Altena will emerge from Thracia castle. She will actively move toward Seliph, and activates her own recruitment by talking to him. | |||

She joins at level 17, thus very close to promotion, likely able to promote after clearing the arena. She has good base stats and her best growth is her 135% HP growth, but she also has great growths in strength, defense and speed and a good skill growth, improved by her two types of Holy Blood: Major Njörun from her father and Minor Baldr from her mother. Altena joins with a powerful set of offensive skills: Critical and Adept, and she also gets Follow-Up upon promotion, not to mention she also has the Gáe Bolg, which grants her a +10 bonus to strength, skill and defense, granting her powerful offense. While Altena may seem like an incredible combat unit at first, it quickly becomes apparent how, despite her great strength, she is fairly slow and is significantly weighed down by the Gáe Bolg, which has 15 weight in comparison to other lances' 12 weight. Altena will rarely double any enemies with it after promotion, so she must either one-shot them, get a crit, proc Adept or use a brave weapon. The other lances apart from Javelins are lighter, but they're much weaker, and Adept and Critical, while useful, are not always reliable. Luckily for her, Altena can use swords, which do not slow her down as much due to their low weight, and she can use all non-legendary swords due to her Baldr blood, which grants her an A rank in swords, so she can double reliably with them. While she can deal a lot of damage, she struggles in killing enemies in one hit if she can't outspeed them. | ||
Altena has a few other issues, however. For instance, she is a flier in Genealogy. This might not seem bad at first, until you | Altena has a few other issues, however. For instance, she is a flier in Genealogy. This might not seem bad at first, as she is a prime candidate to rescue villages due to her ignoring terrain penalties, until you realize that fliers do not get terrain bonuses and don't get increased movement from roads, meaning that she will struggle to keep up with the player's cavalry. Altena is also vulnerable to arrows and magical attacks, which is a major issues in the last two chapters of the game. In these chapters, there are many magic-using and bow-using enemies that will either one-shot Altena or bring her close to death. Even though she has a high defense, her weakness to bows still causes her to take noticeable damage, and she can't afford to get hit by mages. Another thing worth noting is that unlike in most games, enemies in Genealogy will not attack if they are facing a target with very high Defense. Since Altena can frequently have 30-40 Defense, many enemies will not even attempt to attack her while she has the Gáe Bolg equipped. While this seems helpful at first, due to the high enemy density in Genealogy it can be rather irritating to defeat them one by one, especially if the player is trying to play fast. | ||
Overall, Altena | Overall, while Altena is still decent and can fight enemies, her weaknesses limit her usefulness. However, as long as her weaknesses are taken into account, she can still be of use to the player despite her shortcomings. | ||

“ | How do you ever expect the citizens of Thracia to be content thriving off the blood and sweat of other nations? ...Your ways leave much to be desired, father. | ” | — Altena, to Travant |
---|
Altena (Japanese: アルテナ Altenna) is the princess of Leonster, the daughter of Quan and Ethlyn, the elder sister of Prince Leif, and a full-blooded descendant of the Crusader Njörun as well as a bearer of the Baldr bloodline of Chalphy. As an infant, she was with her parents when they and the Lanceritter were murdered by King Travant and the Thracian Wyvern Knights in the Aed Massacre, and in its aftermath she was taken by Travant along with her father's Gáe Bolg, which she was capable of wielding. She was raised as Travant's daughter along with Arion, Travant's actual son and her foster brother, and as she grew she served as a princess of Thracia and a Wyvern Knight in Thracia's army during the era of Grannvale occupation of the Munster District to the north.
It was not until seventeen years later that she met Leif and learned of her true parentage, as he and Seliph led their revolution army through the Thracian Peninsula. Convinced of the truth of Leif's words, at the advice of Arion she allied with Leif and Seliph, assisting in the defeat of Thracia before moving on with them to reclaim Miletos and launch an assault on Grannvale itself. At Grannvale, she convinced Arion to assist Seliph rather than continue to serve Julius.
Biography
As Leif's fledgling army fled through the mountains to Hannibal's mansion to rendezvous with the Leonster knights under his protection, Altena and Travant were touring the region, and were informed by Merlock that the army was in fact a bandit group. There, she had a discussion with Travant about his dreams for Thracia and the Munster District, and his resignation to the inevitable damnation upon him for his methods, before leaving, entrusting the situation to Marlock.
In the last throes of the final confrontation at Grannvale, when Arion and a squad of Thracian mercenaries came under the payroll of Julius to subdue the revolution base at Chalphy, Altena convinced Arion to stand down and ally with Seliph.
Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
Role
Altena is a playable character during the second generation. In Chapter 8, Altena appears as an enemy unit once Connacht has been seized. As the area near her is inacessible, it is impossible to fight her in this chapter. In Chapter 9, Altena appears an enemy unit affiliated with Thracia at the start of the chapter. If Finn is still alive and Leif talks to her, she will retreat for the map, causing Travant to appear. Once Travant is defeated, Altena will emerge from Thracia castle. She will actively move toward Seliph, and activates her own recruitment by talking to him.
Starting stats and growth rates
Growth rates include holy blood bonuses. The inherited amount of gold can fluctuate between 2,000 and 12,000. Altena will inherit all of Quan's lances; she will always inherit Gáe Bolg, regardless of whether the player obtained it in Chapter 3.

Love growths and events
Altena is not capable of gaining love growth with anyone.
- In Chapter 9, when she appears as an enemy, Leif can initiate a conversation with Altena which prompts her to leave the battlefield and sets in motion the process of recruiting her.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Altena is the only playable Wyvern Knight in Genealogy of the Holy War, as well as the second flier you get in the second generation.
Overall, while Altena is still decent and can fight enemies, her weaknesses limit her usefulness. However, as long as her weaknesses are taken into account, she can still be of use to the player despite her shortcomings.

Personality
As a contrast to her adoptive father's brutal ways, Altena – like Arion – opted for a kinder approach, refusing to turn her weapons against innocent civilians even if it involved opposing Travant's commands.[2] Where possible, she insisted on Travant opting for a less underhanded and brutal way of life for the good of Thracia, and despite her affection for Travant, had no issue with criticizing his methodology.[3] Where innocents were not involved, however, Altena was a strong and uncompromising warrior. She had little patience for trickery, and to this end brushed off Leif's initial attempts to convince her of her true heritage and was enraged when confronting Travant about the same.
Altena is a fearsome warrior in combat. Her combat prowess is compared to Prince Shannan of Isaach by Larcei.[4] In using the Gáe Bolg, Altena feels she must live up to the past wielders' legacy – including Njörun's – and must use the weapon to fight for peace.[5] This has made Altena dutiful and responsible, but it has also made her withdrawn and aloof, only close to a select group of people in front of whom she is not afraid to open up. She also tries her best not to get her pride get the better of her; while she recognizes her skills as a warrior and is not afraid to speak about them with confidence, she believes that pride comes before a fall.[6][7]
Altena feels hesitant to meet her father when she has the opportunity to do so in Fire Emblem Heroes, as she has been raised by Travant, the person who had killed her father. She has complicated feelings about Travant – on the one hand, she despises him for what he did to Quan and Ethlyn, but on the other hand, she recognizes that he tried his best to help Thracia.[8] She used to respect Travant, which makes it even more difficult for her to face her parents in Heroes; she feels she betrayed them, and believes that holding any respect for Travant is wrong, but she cannot help continuing to.[9] When Altena does meet her parents in Heroes, she is reassured by them and not judged; this pushes her to continue wielding Gáe Bolg, in their name as well as the name of past wielders.[10] Altena believes that both Leonster and Thracia could be called her home, and wishes to see the two countries united.[11]

- ↑ "Your strength rivals even that of Prince Shannan. I would expect no less from the wielder of Gáe Bolg." — Larcei to Altena, Fire Emblem Heroes
- ↑ "I was not ignorant of that burden when I took up this lance. In the time since, however, I've come to understand just how daunting and lonesome an obligation it truly is. If my fate takes the shape of the tragedy of Gáe Bolg, it will be up to me alone to overcome it. And that tragedy is not the only weight I carry, either. I must also think of the wish for peace that the lance's first wielder, Njörun, so earnestly held." — Altena to Shannan, Fire Emblem Heroes

- ↑ "Pride clouds the vision. I must be mindful of that." — Altena, Fire Emblem Heroes
- ↑ "Travant took both my parents from me. Worse, he sought to destroy my home country. Nevertheless...from a very young age, I saw him work tirelessly to improve the lives of the people of Thracia. He was often portrayed as a heartless villain, but he was fully willing to sully his reputation to achieve his goals..." — Altena to Fjorm, Fire Emblem Heroes
- ↑ "In my ignorance, I respected him. He cared for me as if I were his true daughter. Educated me. Trained me as a knight. I know now he was my enemy. I do despise him... But how can I face my birth father, after all of that?" — Altena to Fjorm, Fire Emblem Heroes
- ↑ "Mother, Father, I swear this to you... I will do you proud. I will wield the Gáe Bolg with the honor it deserves. As your daughter, I will fight for our people. I will fight for peace!" — Altena to Quan and Ethlyn, Fire Emblem Heroes
- ↑ "I am of Leonster by blood, but I was raised by Thracians. Either could just as easily be called my family. Blood relationships, birthplace, upbringing... All these things form a complicated knot... But perhaps, if I can show the people who I am inside... It may help heal the wound dividing the two countries. Reunited with my brother and father, we can work together to do just that, as a family... That is my dream." — Altena's 5-star level 40 conversation, Fire Emblem Heroes
