Alen (Japanese: アレン Alen) is a cavalier in Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade who first appears in Chapter 1. He is a daring cavalier of Pherae, who fights with Roy throughout the whole game, and a friend of the cavalier Lance, a much calmer knight.
Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade
Role
Alen first appears in Chapter 1, when he is escorting Roy back to Pherae from Ostia. Unexpectedly, the castle of Pherae is being attacked by bandits. Along with Lance, Marcus, Bors, and Wolt, he helps Roy to defeat the bandits and save those trapped in the castle: Lilina, Eliwood, Roy's ill father, and Merlinus. He continues to loyally fight for Roy throughout the rest of the game.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Alen is The Binding Blade's Cain archetype, and joins alongside his partner Lance at the beginning of the game. The decision of whether to use Alen or Lance comes down to personal preference and the whims of the RNG. A solid strategy is to use both at the beginning and keep the one that is growing better when you get better characters and can't deploy both anymore.
The Cavalier class by itself makes both Alen and Lance good. It provides a high movement range of 7, two weapon types (swords and lances) for weapon triangle control and the ability to rescue units and then move in the same turn (allowing rescue drop strategies). Cavaliers also promote to Paladin, which gives them the ability to use axes (and thus perfect weapon triangle control), an additional point of movement and very good stat boosts all around.
Alen will likely edge out Lance due to having advantages in HP, Strength, and Defense, while maintaining just enough Speed to double who he needs to double. Of course, both are really good cavaliers with the best availability in the game. The first Knight Crest you acquire should go to either him or Lance, as they are the best candidates for it. As long as they stay relatively close to their average stats, both Christmas cavaliers will be solid units in your roster throughout the whole game.
Personality and character
Alen is a reckless knight with a fiery personality. His fighting style is often to charge into the enemy with brute force. To Thea, he explains that it is because as a cavalier of the army, he must show his strength to the enemy[2]. However, Marcus advises him not to be so rash when fighting[3]. Although he is daring, he takes his job as a knight very seriously. He is very devoted to protecting the other soldiers, especially Roy. He trains very hard to get stronger, even on the battlefield, in order to help Roy.
Alen says little about his past in his support conversations. He is a very good friend of Lance and as a Pheraean knight, his job is to protect Roy.
