A Traitor's Worth (Japanese: 裏切りの持つ価値は The Worth of Betrayal) is the second sidequest in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. In order to reach this chapter, the player must have 15 or fewer units alive at the end of chapter 12.

Plot

Main article: A Traitor's Worth/Script

After the liberation of Archanea Palace, Marth and his men ride across the country to drive out Dolhr's forces. The last holdout is Horace, a former Archanean knight who unexpectedly betrayed Archanea for Dolhr. Nyna gives in to her knights' desires and orders Marth to subdue him. As he approaches, the Dohlrian knight Dejanira threatens Horace with the deaths of the people living on his land should he attempt to return to Archanea. Marth defeats Dejanira, and Horace surrenders. In the aftermath, Horace requests to be executed as a traitor. However, his people plea on his behalf and explain Dejanira's blackmail, and Nyna opts to force him back into service as an Archanean knight.

Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

This chapter is another relatively simple gaiden chapter. Horace and his six men have set up shop on the left half of the map, Pirates are waiting to come out of the fortresses on the western sea, and there are a couple of villages to visit on the right half. The sensible strategy is to make your way up the right side of the map, wiping out all opposition. Dejanira is no threat since he lacks range, so the only real problem is the Manakete near the northern village. Pull him in with a fast unit (at least 17 Speed) and wipe him out. Make sure to leave Horace alive so you can recruit him. He has good base Strength, acceptable stats all around, and decent growths, making him a decent substitute for Draug. He will never be able to compete with a trained Wolf or Sedgar, however.
