Nowi fills an unusual gameplay role in Awakening. She is an early-game Manakete, joining in only Chapter 8. She is one of three-four if the younger Spotpass Tiki is counted-default Manakete in the game, the others being Tiki and Nah. The only other manakete in the series to join as early is Bantu, however, Nowi does not suffer from bad growth rates like Bantu.
Her story role is minor, she is encountered and rescued by the Shepherds during their journey to Plegia. There she is fleeing from slave traders, the Grimleal, and Gregor. After Gregor attempts to explain that he is not going to harm her they fend off the Grimleal until they and the Shepherds defeat them. She has been separated from her parents for a while, and after some divination by Tharja, they are revealed to be deceased, leaving her orphaned.

Personality and character
Nowi acts childish and is very energetic. She seems to have more knowledge about the world than her actions imply. She is familiar with the effects of dragonstones on young manakete, being presumably self-taught as her parents were never around. Having never known her parents, she is unfamiliar with how families generally function. She also has difficulty sleeping without her dragonstone. She is also a terrible liar, being unable to maintain a calm tone of voice when doing so.
As mentioned, she seems to know more about many things than she lets on, Tharja also mentions that she is unable to read her completely. Nowi is also not foolish enough to accept that Tharja being unable to divine her parent's location means anything other than their deaths, though she at first pretends to be fooled. Nowi considers her role in the army as one of morale support, mentioning that her playful nature soothes those around her. Having lived for over a thousand years, Nowi has learned plenty of skills, such as massaging.

Stahl, Viridian Knight & Nowi, Eternal Youth
Stahl continued his service as an Ylissean knight and led crucial missions across the realm. His scatterbrained charm complimented his wife Nowi's constant quips, making for a happy home indeed.
Vaike, Zero to Hero & Nowi, Eternal Youth
Vaike returned to the streets that raised him and was welcomed as a hero and brother to all. Still, the children were even fonder of his wife, Nowi, who played with them every day and never seemed to age.

Ricken, Upcoming Mage & Nowi, Eternal Youth
While continuing to study magic, Ricken realized how childish some of his actions had been. Behind closed doors, people whispered as to how he aged while his wife, Nowi, never did.
Gaius, Candy Stealer & Nowi, Eternal Youth

Donnel, Village Hero & Nowi, Eternal Youth
Donnel returned to his tiny village and built a happy life with his mother and his wife, Nowi. She loved her new home and scampered through the fields and mountains with the fervor of a village cat.

Portrait of Nowi from Awakening
- " I do. And more importantly, you're still very young for a manakete. You can't overuse the dragonstone. It's far too powerful for one your age." - Nowi to Nah, Fire Emblem Awakening
- "Well, er, I'm at home, right? So when Dad goes off to work, what does Mummy do? *Sniff* Oh, how sad! I don't know! I don't know anything about families!" - Nowi to Lon'qu, Fire Emblem Awakening
- "Ricken: Geez, Nowi! You have to promise to stop taking that dragonstone to bed! I don't want to wake up to the smell of burning tents again.
Nowi: B-but, I can't get to sleep if I'm not holding on to it..." - Nowi and Ricken, Fire Emblem Awakening
- "Nowi:D-dragonstone? Er, NO! Not a clue! I have no idea. Nope. None whatsoever.
Nah:...You're a terrible liar.
Nowi:B-but I'm NOT lying. Ha ha. Ah ha...ha?" - Nowi to Nah, Fire Emblem Awakening
- "...Strange. I cannot read through the shell that cloaks your mind." - Tharja, Fire Emblem Awakening
- "Tharja: Ten thousand years would not be enough. Just be content knowing they're well.
Nowi: ...What aren't you telling me?
Nowi: Tharja, just tell me the truth. I'm a grown woman. I can take it.
Tharja: I could not locate your parents. And this means...
Nowi: That they've gone to a land so far away neither of us have ever heard of it?!" - Tharja and Nowi, Fire Emblem Awakening
- "Nowi: *Sniff* Mom... Dad... *sob*
Nowi: H-huh? Oh... Tharja.
Tharja: You've figured it out, haven't you? About your parents?
Nowi: What do you mean? Do you have more news?
Tharja: Stop it, Nowi. You don't have to pretend. I can tell you've been crying. And I know why.
Nowi: I don't cry! I'm really strong! *sniff* Besides, nothing bad has happened. Mom and Dad are just...far away. So I don't have any reason to cry. ...Look, I'm fine, all right?" - Tharja and Nowi, Fire Emblem Awakening
- "I KNOW, silly. But thinking about it all the time isn't going to help me! The tougher things get, the more I laugh, and that makes everyone else laugh, too. I think that's kind of my job here. To keep everyone smiling." - Nowi, Fire Emblem Awakening
- "Nowi: How's this? I'm not doing it too hard, am I?
Cherche: No, that's just perfect. Mmm, I had no idea you were so good at back massages.
Nowi: When you're as old as I am, you pick up lots of stuff." - Nowi and Cherche, Fire Emblem Awakening
- "Hey, for your information, I happen to be quite smart! I just don't care about money, is all. Us manaketes don't use it much." - Nowi, Fire Emblem Awakening
- "So, er... Where do you humans keep your hearts, anyway?" - Nowi to Libra, Fire Emblem Awakening
