Ulki is one of two main hawk laguz available through midgame and on. Due to his class, he has high mobility and flight (but no canto); he is one of very few flying units that can shove. Ulki's speed is average when transformed, enough to double some lategame units but not most. He is also restricted to 1-range and has average durability (though a respectable health base and Vigilance help), so his enemy phase is weak. His transformation gauge takes a few turns to transform, so for most playthroughs, he will typically transform just after the player has engaged the enemy. He can use a demi band to start transformed, but his attack power suffers and he will double even less.

Ulki has excellent growths in strength, skill, and speed. However, his speed growth is not enough to quickly fix his base speed, and he is stuck with 1-range combat and no forges, severely limiting his offense. His defensive growths are mediocre for a laguz unit, though this is mitigated by Vigilance. Both at base and in the long-run, he is ultimately outclassed by mounted fliers, his only useful niche being his ability to shove.

Ulki has the Vigilance skill which gives him an innate boost to avoid. This gives Ulki high avoid despite his mediocre speed and luck, helping compensate for his mediocre durability. Adept and Wrath complement his good skill and health stats, respectively, and give him a necessary offensive boost. Smite can make him a more useful niche flying shover, though his low weight severely limits his shoving utility. His mastery skill, Cancel, is a useful defensive skill and is one of the better uses of the Occult scrolls, if the player wants to use Ulki long-term.

Ulki has a water affinity which gives a useful attack and defense boost. All of his partners have either a water or fire affinity, ensuring he will always get a full attack boost with each support. In particular, Mordecai gives a significant +3 attack and defense boost at A support, and he is another laguz unit with a similar laguz gauge. Boyd and Rhys work fine, though both are beorc units with different roles from Ulki.
