The tome (Japanese: 魔道書 magic book) is a weapon type in the Fire Emblem series which debuted in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light. Appearing only in six games - Shadow Dragon NES, Mystery of the Emblem, Shadow Dragon, New Mystery of the Emblem, Awakening, and Fates - it is comprised of all offensive magic types present in the game, in contrast to how most other games split magic into multiple weapon types based on elemental affiliation. Under the unified tome type, any unit capable of wielding tomes can use all tomes of a certain rank equally, as opposed to only having access to a limited elemental set. After Mystery of the Emblem, the split magic types were introduced and appeared in all games until Shadow Dragon, when the unified tome type was reimplemented and retained in all subsequent games.

In Awakening and Fates, there are some tomes which - while classified as tomes and maintained under the tome weapon rank - are considered dark magic and are locked exclusively to the Dark Mage, Sorcerer and units which possess the Shadowgift skill.
