Plot
- Main article: The Dungeon/Script
Leif and Lifis are arrested by Raydrik and imprisoned, while Eyvel is taken away to meet Mareeta and Nanna. A group of rebels led by Brighton arrive to break out Leif and several other prisoners. As they escape, Manfroy, Veld, Ishtar, and Julius meet to discuss the child hunts. Manfroy orders Veld and the generals of Friege to capture the children of Tarrah. Ishtar explains that many Friege nobles, including Bloom and Ishtore, are protesting against the child hunts, and begs Manfroy to stop them. Julius dismisses her concerns.

Item data
There are 16 chests in this chapter. Four of them will contain a Javelin, a Steel Sword, a Rapier, and a Vulnerary. The remaining 12 chests will contain 12 of the 14 possible items that Leif and Lifis carried in the previous chapter. If Leif and Lifis carried 13 or 14 items combined, one or two of the items (including the above four) will randomly be deleted. The locations of every item in each chest will be random.
Enemy data
- Stats with two figures separated by a ~ are presented as a range, representing stats that vary due to random growths. The figures to the left and right of the ~ are the stat's minimum and maximum possible values respectively.

Reinforcements
Reinforcements begin appearing if any of the four initial Soldiers have been provoked or all of them have been defeated or captured and released. Each individual reinforcement has a 40% chance to appear each turn; if there are 13 Soldiers on the map at the start of an enemy phase, no reinforcements will appear that turn.
- Turns 7–20
- One level 1 Soldier from the western stairs
- Turns 8–60
- One level 3 Soldier from the southern stairs
- Turns 10–24
- One level 4 Soldier from the southern stairs
- Turns 12–24
- One level 2 Soldier from the eastern stairs
NPC data
- Stats with two figures separated by a ~ are presented as a range, representing stats that vary due to random growths. The figures to the left and right of the ~ are the stat's minimum and maximum possible values respectively.
- NPCs can escape at the east, west, and south stairs along the edges of the map; they move to escape via the closest one.
Strategy
This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.
|
It is highly recommended that you try to save the Civilians due to the side chapter afterwards giving access to Asbel and a plethora of great items. Try to focus on unlocking the bottom right room first so that you get your second thief, Lifis (if you recruited him in Chapter 2x), and buying some time so that you can unlock all of the chests, most of which contains items confiscated from Leif and Lifis from the previous chapter. You will have to share a single Lockpick between Lara and Lifis until you get your second one, either by having it in Leif's or Lifis's inventory at the end of the previous chapter, or getting it from a chest at the end of Chapter 5. Remember that Leif, Lifis, and the newcomers Fergus and Karin are all unarmed, so give them a weapon or they will be instantly captured. Both Machyua and Brighton have a reserve sword and a third is obtained in a chest. Lara, Lifis, and Karin are all mediocre at combat and can be used as capture bait to alleviate weapon shortages.
Every turn, more and more Soldiers will spawn in one of the three corridors, so try to move as one squad. However, the west and east corridor also serves as the escape point for the civilians; the soldiers that spawn from there can and will attempt to capture any civilians heading there when possible. If the soldiers manage to escape with a civilian in tow, you will not meet the requirements to enter Chapter 4x and recruit Asbel. Again, it is recommended to stick together as one group since the narrow space of the corridors can make it tricky for a single or pair of units to finish off any soldiers that captured civilians.
Be sure to prepare and gather your units together before unlocking the northern door, as there is a squad of enemy units waiting within the room, and you may need to either make a break for it and flee towards the exit point ASAP, or lure out and eliminate the enemies one-by-one before leaving. If the player returned the civilian Jubel to the correct house in the previous chapter, then Leif or Lifis can talk to Dalsin to have him join their team, though he may need to escape immediately as other enemies may attempt to kill him afterwards.
This is the first chapter with an Escape objective. Unlike later entries in the series that feature said objective, Leif needs to be the last one to escape after his teammates have safely done so; any player units left behind after Leif escapes will be considered captured, and will not be available until Chapter 21x, where you can rescue them.
Note that if both of your Thieves (Lara and Lifis) are killed before they can unlock both Leif's cell and the northern door leading to the exit point, the chapter will be rendered unwinnable, since Leif needs to escape in order to complete the level, and the player will be forced to restart.
