Elen (エレン, Eren), also translated as Ellen, is a cleric in Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade and the player's first healer in the game. She first appears and is playable in Chapter 2, where she is escaping a prison to get help. She is a vassal of Guinevere.
Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi
Role
Elen and and the princess Guinevere are on their way to Lycia to meet with the heads of the league and find a peaceful way to resolve the invasions. When she arrives at the border of Bern and Lycia, the leader of the fort takes her and Guinevere hostage. The leader of the castle, Ruud, plans to sell Guinevere to Bern's enemies. Elen escapes from the prison, but she is attacked. At this time, Roy and his small group had arranged to meet a group of mercenaries at this location, and Elen happens to run into them before the castle guards catch up to her. She helps Roy defeat Ruud and free Guinevere. She then accompanies Roy throughout the rest of the story.

Personality and character
Elen is a very pious and good-willed lady. She is slightly shy, and is scared of men.[1] Still, she is very friendly, often trying to help others as well as she can, and concerned about the safety of both those in the army and non-fighters in need.[2] When talking to Lugh, she expresses her concern over seeing a child's fighting in a war.[3] She truly believes in the good in people, seeing Saul not as a womanizer but as a priest trying to show the freedom of the Elimine Church.[4] As a priestess of Bern's Elimine Church, she is very religious and is eager to talk with Saul about the subject. Elen is also a skilled healer, even having knowledge with medicinal herbs.[5]
Elen comes from Bern, having lived in the same hometown as Zeiss,[6] and is very loyal to her mistress Guinevere, the princess of Bern. She also seems to know Milady, as both are from Bern and serve under Princess Guinevere. She knows that Bern started the war and understands when Chad is angry at her for being from the country.[7]

- ↑ Zeiss: You're still scared of men? Well, I guess I can't blame you. It was years before you would speak to me normally like this!
- ↑ Elen: Is someone hurt?
Chad: Eh? Yeah, he's a traveler, and he got hit by a stray arrow. It's not a large wound, but the bleeding won't stop.
Elen: Wait, then my healing staff would work better than the herb. Can you show me to this traveler? - ↑ Lugh: I may be still a kid, but I'm pretty handy with my magic, you know!
Elen: No, I wasn't doubting your ability... It's just that...children shouldn't be on the battlefield. - ↑ Elen: Usually, you appear to be an impious, improper womanizer. Hardly someone I would call a priest.
Saul: ......
Elen: But I finally realized that there was a complicated reason to that. You were putting on a show to show how free the Elimine Church is.
Saul: Ah... I, uh...see.
Elen: Acting like that would naturally cause misunderstandings... Everyone thinks you're just a lazy man always chasing after women...
Saul: ......
Elen: But you purposely walk that path for the benefit of the Church. I surely could not do the same. I sincerely respect you, Father Saul. - ↑ Chad: Okay, if I'm not wrong, one of these herbs is medicinal, right? You can make a vulnerary out of one of them.
Elen: Yes, it's this one. I'm surprised that you knew that one of them was medicinal. - ↑ Zeiss: Eh? Ah, er, well... Well, we come from the same town, and, uh...
- ↑ Elen: It's my country that started the war. So I understand...if you have hostility toward me, a native of Bern...
