“ | Tch...! Damn Raydrik and damn the Empire! I've no love left for any of 'em! I defect! Me life is in yer hands! | ” | — Dalsin |
---|
Dalsin (Japanese: ダルシン Dalsin) is a knight of Munster, and the eldest of three children from a village near Fort Kelbeth. Formerly serving Raydrik as a guard in Munster Castle's dungeon, he defected from Munster to ally with Leif upon learning that his youngest sibling, Jubel, had been abducted in the child hunts.
Biography
Dalsin was stationed as the captain of the Munster dungeon guard during Leif and Lifis's time in captivity there, and was entrusted with ensuring Leif's continued captivity until people from Connacht came to collect him. When the Magi led a raid on the dungeon and freed Leif, Dalsin initially commanded the guard in opposing them and demanded they return to their cells, but had a change of heart upon learning of Jubel's capture in the child hunts and chose to defect and ally with Leif, assisting in his escape.
Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
Role
Dalsin is a playable character. In Chapter 4, Dalsin starts as an enemy unit next to the escape point. If Jubel was rescued in Chapter 3, Dalsin can be recruited when talked to by Leif or Lifis.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Dalsin joins near the end of Chapter 4, and his most standout trait at base is a high defense stat (though his defense growth is only average), allowing him to tank physical enemies. He joins with a B rank in axes, which is enough to use all non-personal axes in the game, such as his Battle Axe, which has similiar stats to a Steel Axe, though it's slightly lighter and more accurate and has a crit rate bonus. While his skill growth isn't terrible, his low skill base of 3, when combined with the lower accuracy for axes in comparison to other weapons, can make his hitrates rather shaky. The support bonuses he receives from Leif can help him, but he won't always be able to stay close to him, since he's stuck with a movement of 5 regardless of being indoors or outdoors unless he Class changes to General or gets a lucky level. The best axe Dalsin can be given is the Brave Axe if the player wishes to bring it into Munster; it gives him better accuracy and allows him to hit enemies twice, which is something he cannot do by himself due to his low base speed. This notably increases Dalsin's offensive potential and makes him a much better unit. He also benefits from taking Dagdar's Hammer during the Munster chapters, as with it, he can one-shot armored enemies even when capturing, though his hit rates with it will be poor due to the Hammer's base 50 hit.
One of Dalsin's flaws aside from his lack of speed and low movement is his high constitution. While it allows him to wield most weapons without being weighed down, it also makes him harder to rescue, since he will give his rescuer movement penalties. This is especially problematic considering Dalsin's low movement; he could be rescued by a mounted unit to get him somewhere faster, but because of his high constitution, it becomes difficult to move him around the map. It is not as impactful indoors, where mounted units must Dismount and most units have the same movement as Dalsin, but on outdoor maps, it is very easy to notice.
Another one of his flaws is the fact that he is an armored unit. Distribution of Armorslayers and Hammers among enemy forces are alarmingly high, particularly in the later stages of the game, and these weapons will kill Dalsin in two hits tops; he is lucky to withstand even one hit. Additionally, the flat 20 caps for all stats also hurt him, as enemies can consistently damage him no matter how strong he gets, allowing him to be worn down when fighting large amounts of enemies.
If one desires to use Dalsin long-term, he should be equipped with the Ced Scroll to gain a massive 30% boost to his speed growth. His promotion to General allows him to use lances indoors, a trait unique to him and Xavier, as well as access to swords and bows, though they will all be E rank, and some useful bonuses, especially in skill and Movement, the last one helping him keep up during indoor maps.
Because Dalsin has short-term benefits (good defense and Brave Axe utility) and long-term issues (Terrain restrictions + high constitution), he is best used for a short time after he joins. Since the maps are indoor at the time, it is easier to make use of Dalsin's assets then, and his flaws are less problematic. Players frequently leave him behind in Munster in Chapter 6, as doing this unlocks Chapter 21x and prevents him from becoming a liability later. If he is used past that point, he can still contribute, but the player must be prepared to face his inevitable shortcomings.
Personality
Dalsin was primarily concerned by the ongoing survival of his siblings, Diana and Jubel, and was motivated in his work to ensure their happiness; when he learned of Jubel's abduction in child hunts, he felt he could no longer serve Munster.

Dalsin, Knight of Unwavering Resolve
Determined to protect everyday folk from bandits, Dalsin relocated to Kelbeth's Gate, near where his siblings lived. He maintained a round-the-clock watch, fighting off brigands every day and night. For a time, his life was a cycle of battle. But before long, the bandit gangs that had long plagued the area around the fort were all but wiped out. Once said to be a place "more terrible than Hell itself," the fort was now called "more safe than the gates of Heaven."
