Castle Aed
At the start of this chapter, you will encounter a few Dark Mages standing outside the home castle. They all wield the heavy Jormungand tome, which is not only strong, but unusually accurate for a dark tome, which gives them worryingly reasonable hit rates and lets them deal a whopping total of 31 magical damage to anyone they successfully hit, often enough to one-shot (rarely two-shot) most of your units. If Julia obtained the Nosferatu tome in the previous chapter, she becomes the most reliable way to safely deal with them, as she can heal up any damage she takes from them with each attack.
Shannan and Patty (Daisy, if Brigid died or did not marry before the end of chapter 5) start far away from Seliph's forces, near Castle Aed. Right away, you should have Shannan talk to Patty/Daisy to receive the Balmung, a powerful sword that boosts his skill and speed by a huge margin. With the legendary Crusader weapon, Shannan would have no trouble killing the nearby enemy Heroes and Dark Mages near his starting position. You can try to immediately rush for the boss of the Aed Castle, but despite the boosted avoid granted by Balmung, Shannan will still face 10% hit rates from the Dark Mages, and all it takes is two unlucky hits to kill him. Regardless of what you do, you should get Patty/Daisy out of harms way, as all of the enemies will OHKO her.
Leif, Finn, and Nanna/Jeanne
Leif, Finn, and Nanna (Jeanne, if Lachesis died or did not marry before the end of chapter 5) are automatically playable from the start of turn 1. Just like Shannan and Patty/Daisy, they start far away from Seliph's forces, only this time they are isolated in the area where Castle Leonster and Ulster are located, which is normally inaccessible to Seliph's army until they seize Castle Melgen; the only one who can reach and help the trio before that point is Fee/Hermina, who is a flyer. During this time, they have to fend off and defend Castle Leonster as long as possible against Bloom's forces, consisting of many armor knights and a few Thunder Mages. If Leonster gets seized by the enemy units, it won't cause a Game Over, but it will render the facilities inaccessible until Seliph seizes the castle back, which could put Leif's squad in a bad situation if their weapons are on the verge of breaking. They cannot leave the area on foot, due to the fact that two NPC Myrmidons are blocking the southern exit near Castle Melgen. If Leif, Finn, or Nanna have the Return Band in their inventory (either by Finn retaining it with him provided he did not marry during the first generation, or Ethlyn and Lachesis passing it down to Leif or Nanna, respectively), they can actually escape the Leonster/Ulster area. However, this is not recommended, since all three of them cannot escape (only up to two Return Bands can be obtained in the first generation), and those that could not warp back to the home castle will be left at the mercy of the Ulster army.
If Finn married in the first generation, he will only have a single Iron Lance in his inventory, due to the inheritance system forcing him to relinquish his belongings to his son (daughter, if he married Brigid), including his lances. This would greatly hinder his ability to defend Leif and Nanna, making it harder for all three of them to survive long enough until the rest of the player's army can arrive in time.
