Forgotten Hero (Japanese: 抹消された英雄 Erased hero) is a paralogue chapter in FE16. It is available from Chapter 15 to Chapter 21 Silver Snow/Chapter 21 Azure Moon/Chapter 22 Verdant Wind/Chapter 17 Crimson Flower. In order to attempt this paralogue, the player must have recruited Marianne, she must not have fallen in battle previously, and she and Byleth must have unlocked at least their C support. In this chapter, Marianne sets out to defeat a Demonic Beast killing innocents in Edmund territory.

It is possible to defeat the Wandering Beast on turn 1, but it will require multiple strong units in classes that ignore forest terrain—fliers, Thieves, Assassins, Brawlers and Grapplers—as well as Warp users, the Stride gambit, and gambits which move their target. The Wandering Beast has an Anti-Magic Armor barrier, which negates all magic damage—both from spells and gambits. As such, magic gambits like Resonant Lightning are less effective, as they require that at least one barrier is broken or enemy is nearby to damage the Wandering Beast's barriers; even then, they are less effective than other gambits, as they cannot be used to completely destroy a single barrier, only damage nearby ones. Gambits that can target a square of tiles are useful in breaking the Wandering Beast's barrier; gambits such as Blaze, Line of Lances, or the gambits on the lords' battalions—Raging Flames, Wave Attack, and Ashes and Dust.

Wandering Beast

It's said there were once 12 heroes who saved Fódlan. There was the King of Liberation, Nemesis...the 10 Elites, and finally...Maurice.
— Marianne

Forgotten Hero (Japanese: 抹消された英雄 Erased hero) is a paralogue chapter in Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

Plot

Main article: Forgotten Hero/Script

Marianne is accosted by a Crest scholar accusing her of transforming into a Wandering Beast at night and eating innocent civilians. After Byleth drives him off, Marianne explains that her previously unidentified Crest is the Crest of Maurice, also known as the Crest of the Beast. Maurice was a hero who fought alongside Nemesis and the 10 Elites, only to turn into a Demonic Beast in a manner similar to Miklan's fate five years prior; he had to be put down by his former comrades, and his name was erased from history and his bloodline nearly wiped out. Ever since, the Crest of Maurice has become known as a cursed Crest that turns any bearer into a Wandering Beast, explaining her extremely mild-mannered demeanor and self-loathing. Byleth, Marianne, and their comrades set out to kill the Beast and clear her name.

The group ventures into the forest and mortally wounds the Wandering Beast, who thanks them for ending its thousand-year nightmare and bequeaths the Heroes' Relic Blutgang before perishing. The scholar from before returns, recognizes Blutgang, realizes that the Wandering Beast was Maurice himself the entire time, apologizes, and departs. Now at peace with herself, Marianne thanks Byleth for their aid.

Beginning log

Something is attacking people in the forests of Margrave Edmund's territory, and a Crest scholar blames Marianne.

Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

Marianne begins the paralogue in range of the Wandering Beast and surrounded by a number of Giant Wolves, but she will be safe if she does not move; she is out of range of the Giant Wolves—which are initially immobile—and the Wandering Beast will not attack her until another unit enters the clearing. There are other units whose ranges Marianne could move into, but none that can reach her starting position. Marianne will, however, need to move to avoid danger later in the paralogue.

Attempting to destroy every monster's barrier can quickly drain the uses from every gambit. A barrier can be completely destroyed by dealing bonus damage to it, such as from a monster's inherent weapon weakness or from combat arts like Monster Blast; alternately, any monsters that are not an immediate threat may simply be ignored, as the only enemy that needs to be defeated is the Wandering Beast.

The area to the north with the Ballista is the portion of the map safest from monsters; the one-tile-wide entrance cannot be passed by monsters, and they cannot attack the heal tile + and ballista tiles. Crossing from the northeast may cause the Giant Wolf reinforcements to appear, however.

It is possible to defeat the Wandering Beast on turn 1, but it will require multiple strong units in classes that ignore forest terrain—fliers, Thieves, Assassins, Brawlers and Grapplers—as well as Warp users, the Stride gambit, and gambits which move their target. Lure is the gambit which moves its target the most; it is available on each nation's E-authority infantry battalion (the Empire Infantry, Kingdom Infantry, and Alliance Infantry) and the Galatea Pegasus Co.—the latter is the only flying battalion with Lure, and is obtained by recruiting Ingrid and completing her paralogue Rumored Nuptials. Marianne begins close enough to the Wandering Beast to use Lure and bring it closer to the other units' starting location; however, Lure deals damage based on strength, and while Marianne's charm is fairly good, her strength is not, and she may fail to deal any damage to—and thus fail to move—the Wandering Beast. Byleth starts 13 tiles away from the Wandering Beast, and can reach it at 1-range with at least 7 move when boosted by Stride; the Wyvern Rider is the first available class with 7 move that ignores forests—as another class, Byleth will need another boost, such as from Warp or Shove.

The Wandering Beast has four health bars, and a latent ability tied to each bar. It may be worthwhile to inflict armor break after exhausting the first two health bars so as to avoid being attacked while Death Blow is active. Additionally, the Wandering Beast class is both a monster and a dragon, and as such is weak to the combat arts of many Heroes' Relics, such as Sublime Heaven and Foudroyant Strike.
